THEA AB#IN 18-022 – F, 1 Year

Foster dog name: Thea (name can be changed, but she responds to this one)

Gender: Female

Age: 14 months

Size/Weight: ~30 lbs

Color: Black and white

Breed: Setter (possibly spaniel mix?)

Good with Children: Yes. She is very good natured around children but can be a little too exuberant/in your face at times, so a house with older kids (5 yrs+) would probably be best.

Good with Dogs: Yes. Loves having a friend to play and wrestle with! She can be a bit timid with stranger dogs.

Good with Cats: Depends on the cat. She took about a week to figure out that our cats weren’t meant to be chased around the house. Now, she gets along with them fine. I think the cat would have to be dog-savvy (not afraid to stand their ground and give her a swat if needbe)

House trained: Somewhat. She doesn’t signal to go out and even when you let her outside for a walk or to pee in the backyard, she takes a while to actually go. She will need lots of opportunity to go out and relieve herself during the day and positive reinforcement when she does. Like a puppy, if you don’t watch her, she might sneak off to go pee on the carpet.

Crate trained: Yes. She sleeps in her crate by our bed at night with no fussing. When we first got her, we left her in a bigger crate during the day while we were at work and she barked a lot and was pretty frantic so we’ve been leaving her out with relatively no problem (we just make sure that doors are closed, food put away, etc.)

Leash trained: Yes. She is getting much better about leash walking – still pulls a little, especially at birds, but responds to correction.

Behavior: She is very lovey-dovey! Enjoys pets and belly rubs. She’s pretty attentive and will check in on you and follow you around the house to see if you are doing something interesting.

Activity Level: Very playful and energetic! She is best suited for someone who can give her a job to mentally and physically stimulate her such as hunting, scent work, agility, obedience, etc. Or, if you have enough space to let her run, that would also work - she is FAST and will go for miles.

Fence: Fence required. An invisible fence would be best because she is a flight risk – if she sees an opportunity to get out, she will take it. Be cautious if you are in a high-traffic area.

Medical History: UTD on all shots, spayed, and will come with flea/tick and heartworm medication for the year.

Foster Comments: Thea is a very sweet, affectionate girl! She hasn’t shown any aggressive behavior. She knows basic obedience commands and is a quick learner, especially if there is food involved. Although she is a sweetheart, she does have wild child tendencies. She will need to be properly exercised (leash walking actually tends to rile her up) otherwise she becomes a bit obsessive/manic with trying to “hunt” whatever is outside. Having her own designated bird-watching window spot would be ideal! She has also been known to eat poop (not sure if it’s her own or just that my male setter’s poop seems appetizing?) and plastic, so children’s toys beware! If the adopter works 9-5, I would suggest doggy daycare because she doesn’t do well being left to her own devices all day.

Adoption Fee: 300.00

Foster Location: Mundelein, IL
