Foster dog name:  Penny

Gender:  Female

Age:  3 yrs

Size/Weight:  40 lbs

Color:  liver and white

Breed:  English Setter

Socialization/training: very social

Good with Children: unknown, assume she would be good with kids

Good with Dogs: yes

Good with Cats: yes

House trained: yes exceptionally well!

Crate trained: Unknown, never had a need to crate

Leash trained:  Yes, knows that the leash means a walk.

Activity Level: Penny has a high energy level. Loves to run and play.

Fence:  As Penny is deaf, a fence would be required. She has never tried to jump the fence so a standard height fence should be sufficient. She walks well on a leash.

Behavior:  Penny loves attention and tries to be a lap dog. She is very attentive to what you are doing and will be your shadow. She has never had an accident in the house and when she needs to go out, lets you know by getting your attention and then going to the door. She will do this until you let her out.

Medical History:       Up to date on all shots. She is spayed.

Foster Comments:  Penny is deaf. There may be some loud noises she hears (when I sneeze) but I can come into the house, and be there for a bit and she does now know it.  She must not be allowed to run loose. Walking on a leash is required as she would not hear vehicles coming which could be very dangerous for her. She can be unleashed in a fenced area. When in the yard, she will come to you with direction pointing/waving, but you have to get in her line of sight. She can be very focused on her surrounding so  it is important to get her attention before giving her directions.

She will come to you when you motion or wave toward yourself. She will leave a room or go a certain way if you wave your arm that way. I do this with two fingers pointing in the direction I want her to go and she complies.  She sits when you show her your hand in a ‘stop’ position.

She has beautiful brown eyes and loves to sit with you, and lay across your lap if you let her.

When she came to my home, she was very fearful of my cats, but has learned that they are OK. She plays with them but sometimes doesn’t know when to stop. I have seen her with my cats head in her mouth. She is not hurtful to my cats, just mouths them and washes them.

Penny would do well in a home that can provide her with lots of activity. Active kids or another dog to run and play with would be good.
