KEEVA (LINDY)

KEEVA / LINDY A&B #18-109 – F, 10 Months

Name: Keeva / Lindy A&B #18-109

Gender: Female

Age: 10 months

Size/Weight: Medium- 35 lbs

Colour: Black and Tan

Breed: Gordon Setter Mix

Socialization/Training:    Keeva knows how to sit, lay down and stay.  She will stay in the same spot even when you are out of sight from her. Until you go back to get her.  She loves the dog park. She is very active, wants to play with other dogs, chase them and be chased. She is curious and inquisitive. She likes sniffing things, picking up sticks and running with them. She is very well behaved at the dog park.  She may run ahead of you about 20 metres but will look back to make sure you are there. If you call her name from anywhere in the park, she will come running.  She likes to be near you more so than away from you. If you say, let’s go for a walk, she will walk around the dog park with you, by your side. She Loves her kong toy- especially if you stick a piece of tripe in it.  She also likes to work for her food. I put her kibble in a kong with some peanut butter, pour some water in it and freeze it.  It takes her about 20 minutes to get her food instead of 20 seconds. Which is good for her mental stimulation.

Good with Children: Yes. She is good with them. She is still in puppy mode however and will jump up on very small children. She also may puppy nip.

Good with Dogs: YES. LOVES hanging out with other dogs.  She does well in the medium and small dog parks.  She loves playing chase with other dogs but will hide under a picnic table if the dogs are too aggressive around her or too big.    Keeva is a friendly little pup. She may bark at other dogs from a distance while on a leash, but she is just saying hello and wants to go bump noses.

Good with Cats: Unknown. I do not have a cat.  She perks up when she sees squirrels, I would imagine she would chase a cat. But perhaps after being in a house with a cat for a while, the notion of wanting to chase it may leave.

House Trained: Yes.  I consider Keeva to be fully house and potty trained.  She does not chew anything that isn’t hers, she does not jump up on countertops or get into anything she shouldn’t.  She had a few pee accidents inside -first day I got her but nothing since. That was 3 weeks ago. She will do a little bark/groan to let you know she needs to go outside. She is VERY easily trainable.  I had her knocking my front door door- stop when she needed to go outside. I have switched to a hanging bell on the door hook and am training her on that.

She sleeps well at night all through the night. She will sleep from 11pm until 7am. She requires to go outside as soon as she wakes up. She requires to go outside about 30 mins after she takes a big drink of water and requires outside about 2 hours after she eats.

Crate Trained:  She will whimper at first but gets used to it after a couple minutes. She doesn’t go in it much with me though, to be honest. I work from home and have always been around her. She has been allowed to sleep on my bed at night. She doesn’t take up much room at all, is a good little heat source and good snuggler.  She also does not snore!

Leash trained: Somewhat. Keeva really likes exploring.  I bought a retractable leash for her to be able to walk a bit away from me so she can sniff under bushes and what not.  A good 45 walk like this will tire her out.  She has been going to the dog park 1-2 times a day for around 1-2 hours.  Plus she gets walked 3 times a day for 20 minutes.

Activity Level:  Moderate to high.

Fence: Keeva needs a fenced yard.

Behavior:  She will do well with a fenced backyard so she can explore. She needs a lot of mental and physical stimulation. She likes to be your co-pilot in the car.  She will lay in the passenger seat quietly and put her head on your lap. If that bothers you, she has no problem sitting on her own seat.  She walks up to anyone in general and will say hello and nose bump their leg.  She is super friendly and will lay down in front of you and allow you to pet her belly.  She LOVES snuggling. She will sit on your lap, curl up next to you, you can carry her around… I stick my feet under her when they’re cold and she will warm them up!   She wants to be by your side.   If you take some snow and squeeze it into an ice ball, she will eat it. That’s how I give her water while it being winter.  She likes to gnaw on marrow bones. She also likes to watch dog videos on youtube. She twists her head back and forth while looking at the other dogs play.

Medical History: Keeva was hit by a vehicle. She had a fractured pelvis. As well, her tail amputated.  She runs and walks fine and seems to be fully recovered. She sometimes needs help getting into a vehicle.  She is spayed and up to date with all of her vaccinations. She is double microchipped.

Foster comments: I love this little sweetheart but cannot provide her with what she needs at this time.  She needs a backyard.  She is a very good pup and will make someone very happy.  She will come with a leash, collar, rabies tag, microchip tag, her blankets, kongs, sweater, treats and crate.  If I had a backyard, I would not think twice about keeping her.
