Franko

FRANKO ABIN#18-162-3 – M, 2 1/2 Years

Foster dog name:  FRANKO

Gender:  Male

Age:  2.5 years old

Size/Weight:  ~37 lbs.

Color:  Black/white

Breed:  English Setter

Socialization/training:  Franko is a friendly, sweet and well behaved guy.  I have taken him to work a couple of times and he was a very polite gentleman.  He greeted everyone and then came over to my desk and would lie down.  He will sit before he gets a treat or his food.  He rides very well in the car and loves to take walks.

Good with Children:  Unknown but good with people in general.

Good with Dogs:  Yes.  Franko gets along well with his resident fur brother and sister.  He would do well and enjoy another dog(s) in the household to play with.

Good with Cats:  Unknown

House trained:  Yes

Crate trained:  Yes.  Franko is crated when I leave for an extended amount of time.  He goes in very easily with a treat.  Since my resident female diva doesn’t like others to invade her space in bed, I crate him at night also.  He does fine and sleeps through the night.

Leash trained:  Franko loves to go on walks.  This is still work in progress, but he seems like he’s getting it.  Still some zig zagging and typical pulling when a squirrel or bird is spotted, but with some practice and consistency he should do fine.

Activity Level:  Moderate.  Franko is well behaved when inside and loves to run and play when outside.

Fence:  Fence preferred.  I have a 6 ft. privacy fence so I don’t know how he would do with lower and different types of fencing.  His rescuer in Greece did say he had seen someone climb over a chain link fence and that he did the same to go after them.  I’m sure he would be fine if he was watched and didn’t see anyone climbing fences.  He’s a smart boy.

Behavior:  Franko is very gentle and a sweet boy that loves to cuddle and loves attention.  He would crawl into your pocket if he could.  He likes to be around his people.  When I open up his crate he comes out and lies on the floor and turns over on his back for belly rubs.  He very seldom jumps up on me unless we are outside playing.

Medical History:  Franko is neutered, UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, microchipped.

Franko originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic.  He tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-$150.

Foster Comments:  Franko is a joy to have around and is a very sweet lovable guy.  He would love to have another fur sibling(s) to play with or a family/individual that would be willing to include him in car rides, walking and going different places.

Adoption Fee: $300.00

Foster Location: Hamilton, OH
