DIXIE AB#18-145-1 – F, 4 Years

DIXIE AB#18-145-1 – F, 4 Years

Foster dog name: Dixie

Gender: Female

Age: 4 years

Size/Weight: 31 pounds

Color: Tri-color

Breed: English Setter

Good with Children: Yes. Dixie is very sweet and gentle with our three-year old daughter. She has been very patient as we teach our daughter how to interact with a dog. Dixie is very gentle, so we haven’t had to worry about her knocking down our daughter or playing rough with her.

Good with Dogs: Yes. Dixie lived with a male English Setter before their owner died. We don’t currently have other dogs in our home, but she has not shown any aggression toward other dogs when we go for walks.

Good with Cats: NO. Dixie is a little too interested in our cat.

House trained: Yes. Dixie has not had any accidents since she’s been in our home.

Crate trained: Yes. Dixie sleeps in her crate at night. She will whine for a minute after going in, but then settles down and I don’t hear a peep from her until morning. I haven’t seen her go into her crate voluntarily, but I can coax her into it with a treat if I need to leave the house for a few hours.

Leash trained: Yes. Dixie walks well on a leash.

Behavior: Dixie is a sweet, gentle girl and seems somewhat shy, t though we’re seeing more of her personality as she gets to know us better. She’s an easy dog and is happy to go for walks or play in our backyard. She follows me around the house during the day. I’ve been working with her on some basic obedience commands and she does well, perhaps because she’s already learned these commands in her previous life. In the evenings Dixie is happy to relax and snuggle on her dog bed. My favorite thing about Dixie is that she’ll sometimes come up to me and put her head in my lap.

Activity Level: Moderate. Dixie seems to be a fairly calm, laid back dog. We take her for walks on a leash and play in the backyard with her. When she first came to our home, she didn’t seem interested in playing, but as she gets to know us better she becomes more playful with her ball and toys.

Fence: Yes. Dixie enjoys running around our backyard.

Medical History: Spayed. Up-to-date on heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

Foster Comments: Dixie is the sweetest dog, and I’ve totally fallen for her in the short time she’s been with us! We would love to be her forever home, but our cat doesn’t agree. I will be sad to see her go, but I know she will be a beloved companion for a new family.
