Callisto AB#IN18-070-1

Callisto AB#IN18-070-1 – F, 5 Months

Foster Dog Name: Callisto (Callie)

Gender: Female

Age: 5 months

Size/Weight: 13 pounds, will be a petite girl, maybe 20-25 when full grown (perfect lap size)

Color: Orange and white

Breed: English setter mix, DNA test pending

Socialization/training: Callie is a sweet little girl & very smart. She learned the routines at home & day care very quickly. We are working on name recognition & basic obedience. She is moderately food motivated.

Good with Children: Not around any here, but based on her age & temperament, I think she would do well in a home with children of any age

Good with Dogs: She is great with my resident dogs. She does well with others in a day care & training setting. Typical puppy playfulness with others.

Good with Cats: TBD

House trained: Still working on this. She keeps her crate clean at night. I have taken her out on a schedule to give her every chance to be successful. Very few accidents in the house.

Crate trained: Yes, but of course prefers the sofa! She is only crated when I am not home & at night. She goes in easily & settles down nicely. Sleeps all night quietly in the crate.

Leash trained: Working on it! Will need some additional training if there is a desire to do a lot of leash work.

Cars: No so much but is getting better. She does drool quite a bit. I use essential oils & have her tethered in the front seat near me. My other Greek puppy did the exact same thing but grew out of it, so hopefully she will too.

Activity Level: Moderate to low activity level for this girl. She does explore the yard a bit, does some crazy zoomies, but when she’s done exploring, she lays in the grass or is ready to come in for snuggles & indoor play time with various toys.

Fence: Not necessarily, but preferred. Although she is tiny enough to fit through my fence, she respects the boundary (while dragging a long lead). She loves to find bugs & lay in the grass.

Behavior: Callisto is a typical puppy. She loves to romp in the yard, play with her furry siblings, plays with all the toys, chews on bones, eats well, & is a big snuggle bug. She made new friends easily at doggie day care. No resource guarding.

Medical History: Up-to-date on all shots, microchipped, & on heartworm, flea & tick preventative. Needs to be spayed when old enough. Callisto originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She was removed from Greece as a young puppy, so it is unlikely she would ever develop Leishmaniasis, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-150

Foster Comments: This gal hails from the Greek Island of Lesvos. She was found by her rescuer being cared for (quite well) by refugees in a camp with rough living conditions. When they found more dogs, her rescuer was able to convince them to give her up, along with her sister & another dog (who got adopted in the UK). She then lived for 2 months with her rescuer before being flown to Athens where we were able to scoop her up & make her a US citizen just in time for Independence Day! She is a sweet and friendly girl who deserves to find a new home where she’ll be loved and cherished. She is a very nice, loving, easy dog to have in your home.

Adoption fee: $395.00

Foster Location:  Plymouth, IN
