PIPER (Courtesy post)

*Piper, listed as a Courtesy Post is not the responsibility of Above & Beyond (A&B) English Setter Rescue.  She is being put up for adoption by her current owners, who adopted her from this rescue, but have not turned "ownership" back to the rescue. This will be done when a new home is found for her.

Gender: Female
Age: 4 years
Weight: Petite, 35 pounds
Color: White & black
Breed: Eng Setter

Good with Children: Unknown-original owner had older children (10 yrs+)

Good with Dogs: Best as only dog. Recently has taken issue with resident dogs.

Good with Cats: Yes, we have 3 cats and while she goes crazy when the neighbor’s cat is outside, she doesn’t bother our inside cats

House trained: Yes, never an accident in house.
Crate trained: No
Leash trained: Yes, but must wear harness.

Behavior: She is an absolute cuddler, loves sleeping on the bed with us at night. If we are sat down to watch TV she usually is on the sofa with us or in one of our laps.
Sometimes she gets overexcited, she needs help calming down.
She is afraid during thunder storms. She runs frantically around and even trying to hold her tight and comfort her does not work. She does not destroy anything. She runs around until she finds her safe place which is normally under the bed and will stay there for hours despite the storm passing. We were advised to give her a Melatonin if we had warning of the storms and that does work to take the edge off. At that point she is nervous but will stay with us and isn't looking for her safe place.

Activity Level: She is full of energy, she can run like the wind and with her former owners was a flight risk. She has gotten out once and ran like crazy down through the neighbor’s yards but when I sat down on the ground, she thought it was all a game and came right to me. She is very birdy.

Fence REQUIRED: She runs like a gazelle and will need a home with a 6 foot fence.

Medical History: Piper is spayed, up to date on vaccines, is on heartworm preventative, flea control & microchipped.
She came to us with wattle damage from a former owner tying her up with only a rope. We are cautious to use a harness with her to protect her from further damage and not give her treats that are too large so that she won't choke. Harness and lead and collar will travel with her, as well as all medical records from puppyhood.

Comments: Piper is such a sweet dog, she’s been with us for over a year and we really are reluctant to rehome her. We have concerns over her recent and repeated aggression towards our senior boy. We adore her as from the beginning she’s been such a cuddler. She would be a wonderful dog for someone that only wants one dog.

Adoption fee: Determined by owner
