BEBE ABIN#18-143-3 -F, 5 Months

BEBE ABIN#18-143-3 -F, 5 Months

Gender: Female
Age: ~5 months (approx. DOB June 2018)
Size/Weight: ~20 lbs (and growing daily)

Color: Black & White

Breed: English Setter Mix (purebred English Setter mom)

Good with Children: There are no children in Bebe’s foster home, but she is friendly and loves to play, so she would probably enjoy children.  She is still abit mouthy and has sharp puppy teeth, so I would not recommend a home with children under the age of 5.

Good with Dogs: Yes. Bebe adores other dogs.  She is in a foster home with 9 other dogs, and she was with 11 others in Athens, and she very good with all of them.  She likes to play and follows the lead of her other furry siblings.  She is a typical puppy so older or less friendly dogs might find her annoying.

Good with Cats: Unknown.  There are no cats in Bebe’s foster home, but she is a young puppy and could probably learn to live comfortably with cats.  She is not very big, so she wouldn’t be a big threat to a cat during the transition process.  She puts her mouth around everything, but a good swipe from a cat would put her in her place quickly.

House trained: Not yet.  Bebe is a puppy and is still learning about potty training.  She does well if she is taken out frequently and if you watch her signals, but she does still have some accidents in the house. She pees quickly whenever I let her outside, but she drinks a lot and sometimes pees in the house.  She does keep her crate clean and does not mess in there at all.

Crate trained: Yes.  Bebe will go into the crate for a treat.  She might fuss for a few seconds, but she settles down pretty quickly and does well through the night.

Leash trained: Somewhat.  Bebe doesn’t have a lot of leash-training, but she is small and eager to manage.  She doesn’t pull a lot, but she likes to chew on the leash.

Activity Level: Average.  Bebe is a fairly typical setter pup.  She loves to romp and play and has a lot of energy for play time, but she is also content to chew on a toy or settle in for a nap.

Fence: Preferred.  A fenced yard is always preferred, but Bebe would probably be ok if she had lots of walks or hikes and a spacious home that she can play in.

Training/Behavior: Bebe has been with her foster about 2 at the time of posting, and, like any puppy, she would benefit from an obedience class. She still chews on things, but she is easily redirected with an appropriate toy.  She does jump up a lot to get attention and she is still very mouthy.  She never bites down, but she likes to put her mouth on everything.  Her new family will need to work with her on this.  She is a smart puppy and learns quickly.  Overall, she is friendly and loves everyone (dog and human).  She is a very happy and social puppy.

Medical History: Bebe is healthy, UTD on all vaccinations, and is on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. She did arrive from Greece with an intestinal bacteria called Camphylobacter, but she has been on medication for about 2 weeks and should be clear now.  We will re-test her stool before she transports to her new home.  Bebe will need to be spayed in her new home.

Bebe originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She was removed from Greece as a puppy, so it is unlikely she would ever develop Leishmaniasis, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-150.

Foster Comments:
Bebe is a silly, happy and playful puppy.  She seems to love everyone – human and doggie alike, and she always wants to be in the middle of the action.  Bebe loves to play with other dogs and can hold her own with dogs more than 3 times her size.  She wrestles, chases and bounces right up when they roll her over.  She definitely needs another friendly dog in her new forever home.

After she has had enough play time, Bebe will cuddle up in a dog bed or on the rug and chew on a toy.  She is teething, so she likes to chew, but she has been pretty good about sticking to her toys and not chewing on furniture or other things she is not supposed to have.  She and her foster brother Sozo do like to pull the bedding out of the crates and run around the living room with it.

Bebe likes attention and cuddles, but she is not a very needy puppy and she doesn’t need constant attention.  She’s happy to have it, but she will also entertain herself with a toy or a treat.  She is very food motivated and learns quickly.

This fuzzy little cutie will steal your heart ☺
