Bri AB#18-017

Bri AB#18-017

Foster dog name: BRI (pronounced Bree)

Gender: Female (spayed)

Age: 2 years

Size/Weight: Medium (40 pounds)

Color: Mostly white with black ticking except on the face. Her face is half white, and half black and tan. Please see video for unique hair style on her head!

Breed: English Setter possibly crossed with a Llewellyn setter.

Socialization/training: People and animal friendly. Was a huge hit with the veterinarian technicians and the folks at Petsmart.

Good with Children: NO. Bri is best in an adult only home, with adults who set reasonable boundaries with Bri

Good with Dogs: NO. Bri would be best as an only dog as she displays some aggression with other dogs

Good with Cats: NO.

House trained: Has never had an accident in my home, but I have a doggie door which she uses.

Crate trained: YES

Leash trained: YES. Low to moderate puller. When out for a walk, Bri gets to the end of the leash, feels the tightness, and then slows back down. Unless she has found a smell she wants to smell…then she becomes a moderate puller! We have yet to encounter a squirrel while on a walk!

Activity Level: High! Fun to play with outside. Doesn’t play much with the toys...yet! I don’t know how much being spayed will slow her down…I doubt if it will at all!!

Fence Needed? YES. Type…that is still a tough question. Her first two years of life she spent the daytime locked in an outside dog pen 5 feet wide by 8 feet long by 6 feet tall. She got out on several occasions by climbing the fence and then went on an adventure each time! Personally, I would have done the same. Since being at my house she has ‘escaped’ once, but I do not believe it was on purpose. I can explain in detail if you are interested. Now that she is walked daily, has free run of a big backyard, knows that she is well loved, and has cookies to get when she comes in…there have been no more attempts at escape! : )

I have a 6 ft privacy fence all the way around my yard. I think if she is given regular walks, regular playtime, etc. she would be fine with a 4 or 6 ft chain link fence. An invisible fence is a possibility.

Behavior: Bri is very much a lover – a cuddler. She is also independent and doesn’t need you to have fun outside. When I work at my desk she constantly will check on me…places her head on my lap to say “Hi.” When I talk to her she is more attentive than most people! She is a very good listener!

Medical History: Up-to-date on vaccinations. Spayed. Has a long scar on her right ear…all healed over (probably from one of her earlier escapes!). Recently got in a mini-tiff with my springer spaniel over food…my springer started it. She has a small wound on her nose. : (

Foster Comments: Bri is a sweet heart of a setter. She would do well with a young couple, with an older couple, or an active single person. . . But she does need her daily exercise to be her at her best. If you know setters, you probably already know this fact! She is a great bed buddy and super TV pal. I do not think she has had human food (which is good) and does very little begging. Great Temperament. Easy going. Fun to get her all revved up…I play bow to her and she gets all goofy!!
