Volunteer
“After my wife and I got our third and fourth rescues from A&B, we began volunteering to transport dogs as they went from their foster homes to their forever homes. Knowing that so many others were involved in getting our two dogs to us, we felt it was important to help bring that same joy to others.” Pete Gigliotti
Pete is just one of the more than 250 Above & Beyond English Setter Rescue volunteers who help the group rescue abused and neglected English Setters. As an all-volunteer non-profit organization, A&BESR relies on its volunteers to fulfill its mission and give the dogs a second chance at life.
Volunteers across the country provide various types of support. Outlined below are some areas we always need volunteers. Any amount of time that you can give is greatly appreciated.
- Applications Team and Buddies: The applications team processes the adoption and foster applications including phone calls to learn more about the applicant. Once an applicant is approved, a “Buddy” is assigned to work with the applicant to find a setter that is a good match for them. The Buddy knows the available dogs and the desires of the applicants, and coordinates contact with the foster.
- Transporting: Transporters help move dogs to/from their foster/adoptive homes. This involves driving a short segment along the mapped out route, often taking about 60 to 90 minutes. More information is available on the Transport page.
- Fundraising: We are fortunate to have generous donors who support our work, but we also need to organize various fundraisers to secure additional funds. We are seeking individuals with experience in marketing, philanthropy, and general outreach to assist us in securing funds from various sources. If you have any ideas or skills that can help us raise funds to save these dogs, please join us. Your contributions and expertise can make a significant difference in the lives of these English Setters.
- Fostering: Fostering is such an important aspect of rescue, as you watch the dog blossom while preparing them for their forever home. It is one of the most important and rewarding volunteer positions . Fosters provide the first home for the dogs, work with them to determine their temperament, while providing any support they need. They also make the crucial decision as to which adopters will receive their dog. Seeing these deserving dogs find their new home and knowing you made a difference in their life is a truly rewarding experience. More information is available on the Fostering page.
If you have any questions, please contact us at info@esrescue.org or submit the Volunteer Application and someone will be in touch with more information.
