SILVER

SILVER AB#19-180 – M- 7 Years

Foster dog name: Silver

Gender:  male

Age:  7 years old

Size/Weight:  medium-large, about 60 pounds

Color:  black/white

Breed:  English setter

Good with Children:  Seems fine with the ones he’s met on outings.

Good with Dogs:  Loves them, playful, fostered with a resident male + 2 females

Good with Cats:  unknown, but reportedly so

House trained:  completely

Crate trained: Doesn’t love his crate but tolerates it when the humans are away

Leash trained:  Decent on leash

Behavior:  Silver quickly settled into his new foster home.  When he first arrived, he had a setter foster brother and they both loved playing chase with the resident female.  He’s housebroken, naps on a nearby dog bed while his foster mom works during the day.  Since he whimpers a bit if crated and he hears people moving around, he’s allow to sleep uncrated at night.  So of course he goes into an open crate to sleep quietly all night.

Activity Level:  Fairly mellow indoors & out, he will play chase and sniff and follow his foster mom around.  He’s starting to fetch toys.

Fence:  He will need one at least initially.  Silver has enough prey drive that he will need supervision but probably be trustworthy once he settles in.

Medical History: Up to date on all shots, neutered, HW-.  His thyroid levels were low so he’s on a supplement for them in case his hair loss might be that instead of flea bite allergies & being horribly thin when he went to a shelter as a stray.  Hair is coming back in nicely and he’s putting pounds on with 3 smaller meals a day.  Minor ear infection being treated with drops which he tolerates well.

Foster Comments:  Silver had major hair loss and all of his ribs showing when he came into rescue.  A purebred bench type setter from a kennel in the Northwest, he somehow ended up in Tennessee in need of lots of food, love & attention.  Despite his maladies, he has a warm & friendly nature.  He met lots of folks at the Setter Picnic and greeted each with a wag.   He doesn’t seem to care about swimming, rides well in the car, doesn’t have food aggression or resource guarding issues and is decent about taking baths.  He’s somewhat of a counter surfer, as is the resident male, so they just get gated out of the kitchen if there aren’t humans around.  Silver’s external appearance is a work in progress but he’s a kind soul and would love a new home where he can blossom a handsome prince.
