POPPY

POPPY AB#19-075 – F, 2 Years

Gender: Female, spayed

Age: 2
Weight: 48 lbs.
Color: Liver Belton
Breed: English Setter

Good with Children: She has been very gentle and patient with the neighbor children (boys!). She has a soft mouth and is very tolerant of being touched on the face, ears, mouth, paws and tail.  She loves to give and receive kisses.

Good with Dogs: Fantastic!  At first she much preferred human companionship, but has learned how to play thanks to her foster brother Boykin Spaniel and sister Brittany Spaniel.  At the dog park, she is very social in greeting both humans and dogs.

Good with Cats: She has only met the resident cat at the vet's office.  She was not really interested in him at all.

House Trained: Working on it.  She does great in the laundry room (open crate kept there) during the day and when we are away from home working.  She also sleeps at the foot of the bed and does fine overnight.  She has begun to ring the bells on the door to go out, and we are in a routine that seems to work for her so potty times can be anticipated.

Crate trained: NO.  When we are not at home, she is content to stay in the laundry room.  She is only comfortable in the crate with the door open in the laundry room.

Leash Trained: Yes.  Poppy walks well on a leash and pulls a bit when interested in exploring.  She has done great when walking with the pack, and chooses to be in the middle while walking in the neighborhood sidewalk or on nature trails.  Neighbors have commented that she has better leash walking manners than their own dogs.  She will wait patiently when we stop to chat.

Activity Level:  Low.  She prefers to rest where her people are.  When the fur siblings are playing she gets excited and starts play bowing and bouncing.

Fence:  She respects the fence at the dog park.  We have begun to train her on our invisible fence with the sound only alert.

Training/Behavior:  Poppy will come when called ("Poppy Come") or when making the kissy noise.  She has mastered sitting before her food bowl is put down for her, will sit on command for a "beefy" treat; learning outside, walk, off and No (stove is hot!).
She loves to put her head on a lap or to lean into her human.  Sometimes she will stretch up to give a hug or curl up into your lap.  She absolutely loves men!  Our vet is quite smitten with her and gives his stamp of approval.

Medical: Poppy is healthy, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, currently on heart worm preventatives.  Her tail feathers are growing back as she is recovering well from "happy tail".

Foster comments: Poppy is just a doll! She has such a sweet disposition and has begun to vocalize during play. It is hilarious to watch her pounce as she exercises her new "play" skills. The only toy she has taken to is a stuffed toy fox and a nylabone dinosaur.  Loud thunder does bother her and she will climb up into your lap for reassurance. Poppy loves to ride.  Open a door and she jumps in ready to GO!

This beautiful girl will be an excellent only dog or an addition to a family with other pets.  If you are looking for a people-oriented, affectionate companion- Poppy is your girl!
