PLUTO

PLUTO AB#IN18-070-5 – M, 2 1/2 Years

Foster dog name:  PLUTO

Gender:  Male

Age:  2½ years old

Size/Weight:  40 lbs.

Color:  Black/White

Breed:  English Setter

Socialization/training:  Pluto is a very friendly dog to everyone he meets. He is well behaved. He will sit before given a treat and takes the treat very gently.  He loves to go for walks & take car rides and will sit patiently for his harness and leash/slip lead to be put on.

Good with Children:  Pluto has only had one encounter with young children when he visited a neighbor and her 2 children ages 2 and 5. He was very well behaved with them. Our grandchildren are all older teenagers and he gets along great with them.

Good with Dogs:   Yes, Pluto gets along fine with our 2 English Setters. He likes to play with & share their toys.

Good with Cats:  There are no cats in his foster home, but with his very strong prey drive I’m not sure if he would be good with small furry animals.

House trained:  Yes

Crate trained:  We have never grated Pluto. He has free roam of the house. At night time Pluto is confined to our bedroom with our dogs all sleeping on separate beds.

Leash trained:  We are working on this with Pluto. He is a strong puller on leash, and also when he sees critters or birds you better hold on tight. He’s a smart boy and learns quickly. He would do well in dog obedience classes so with more practice and consistency he should be fine.

Activity Level:  Moderate.  Pluto loves to run in the yard chasing birds and critters but once he comes  into the house he settles down nicely. He loves to look out windows and his former foster mom suggests that blinds be pulled at least halfway up so that he isn’t tempted to open the slats himself. Pluto does need an outlet for his energy so having a fur sibling to play with is best.

Fence:  Required! We would recommend at least a 6 foot fence or wall. Pluto loves to run. He patrols our yard daily and is most happy outdoors. Since he’s not completely leash trained I don’t feel walks would be sufficient exercise.

Behavior:  Pluto is a sweet, lovable and very friendly boy. He loves to snuggle and be close to his people and takes in all the attention he can get. Pluto has a very strong prey drive. When we let him out in the yard at night time he is always looking for field mice and critters under bushes and plants.

Medical History:  Pluto is up to date on vaccines, neutered, heartworm negative, on heartworm, flea & tick preventatives, microchipped.

*Pluto came from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic and very common.  He tested negative for the disease before coming to the U.S., but since Leishmaniasis can have a long dormancy period, his potential adopter must be willing to commit to having him tested annually for the next 7 years.

Foster Comments:   We feel Pluto would be a great companion to an individual or a family. He could be an only dog as long as he isn’t left for extended periods of time alone. He needs to bond. He would be great with other dogs also. He is a handsome and sweet boy that will make a wonderful addition to a family.

Foster Location:  Sierra Vista, Arizona

Adoption fee: $300.00
