Mobley

Mobley AB# 20 -023 – M, 18 Months

Foster dog name: Mobley aka Mo

Gender: Male

Age: Around 18 months

Size/Weight: 38 lbs, 24”-ish at withers. Should probably be around 48lbs at healthy weight

Color:  White with light orange flecking

Breed: English Setter, field not bench

Socialization/training: Very, very little. It’s clear Mo has never lived in a house before. But he is eager and attentive and willing to learn! We’ve got “sit” down well. “Stay” means “okay we’re going, right??” Needs very kind and patient training, as he is a very sensitive and soft dog. Harsh training methods will shut him down.

Good with Children: Mostly. He loves to “hug” and can knock smaller ones over. In the house, he seems a little intimidated by lots of noise and activity. Ages 4 and up would be fine with some patience.

Good with Dogs: Yes.

Good with Cats: Was good with the previous foster’s 5 cats, but was only there for a few days.

House trained: Mostly! Does not mark. Will go potty in the house if he hasn’t been let out in ~2 hours.

Crate trained: Yes, but does not prefer it. Barks for 5-10 min before settling.

Leash trained: Not at all. Better in a harness. Working on it!

Activity Level: HIGH. It is very clear that Mo is used to running for hours daily. Would make a fantastic jogging companion once he is leash trained! Hunting or agility would also be in this guy’s wheelbox with some training.

Fence: Doesn’t challenge my 6-foot fence, but he is athletic enough to sail right over a 4-ft.

Behavior: The good: very active, playful, and happy. Gentle, loving, and very very cuddly.

The not-so-good: no manners. None. He likes to jump up quite a bit, mostly to hug, but also to check out whatever you’re doing. Cooking dinner? Let me see! Making coffee? Can i help?? Changing your tire? How do I do that??? Going to bed? Your head makes a good pillow!

Medical History: Up to date on vaccines. Neutered, Microchipped, Heartworm Negative and on preventative. Tested positive for hookworm and has finished treatment.

Foster Comments: Mo is goofy, funny, loving, and really an amazing dog. He is so eager to please, but simply has never been taught how to learn. Mo loves cuddling, running, and being absolutely silly. His main vice is his “hugs”—he loves to jump up for literally anything. He is very gentle about it, though! Mo is a great house dog—no marking or destructive behaviors.

Mo has gotten on very well with my daycare dogs. He is more comfortable with girls, but does just fine with boys after a proper introduction. He is also very, very birdy! Mo would make an excellent running, hunting, or dog-sport companion.

Note: Mo came to me severly underweight. I have been trying to pack on the pounds since his arrival. However, between hookworm treatment and his extremely high energy levels, it’s been slow-going. Mo should probably be around 48lbs at his healthiest weight.
