MELEK

MELEK ABIN#18- 143-1 – F, 18 Months

Foster dog name: Melek

Gender:  Female

Age:  Appro 18 months

Size/Weight:  Melek is a petite 32 lbs

Color:  Black and white

Breed:  English Setter mixed

Socialization/Training: Melek sits and comes very well. Needs more work with down and heal. She walks ok on a leash, but much better with a harness. She is getting much better with being housebroken, but still needs some work. Accidents are down to 1-2 times weekly. Melek loves to run in the yard 2-3 times a day. She will pace in the house if she does not get to go outside to run. I get on the floor and play with her and she likes that. She has a soft mouth in that she is very gentle playing rough. Never has she been too rough or attempted to bite or growl.

Good with Children:  Unknown, but I would not expect any issues with children over 8 years old.

Good with Dogs:  Yes

Good with Cats: Yes, but she will chase them if the cat runs. I have 3 cats and never seen her attempting to hurt the cats. Her chasing them is a form of her playing.

Activity Level:  Loves to run, but comes when called. Playful, but still loves to cuddle.

Fence: Melek definitly needs a fence. She loves to run along the fence as fast as she can go. 6 foot fence recommended.

Behavior:  Melek is my shadow, she likes to follow me where ever I am in the house. Listens well to come and sit. Melek is a couch potato and loves to cuddle. She would love to share your bed, but I crate her at night where she can see me. Does very well in the crate. Likes to play with other dog(s). She really likes her stuffed animals and rawhide chews. She will shake the stuffed animal and let them fly, then do it again. So cute and funny. She likes to entertain.

Medical History: Spayed and UTD on everything as of Oct. 1. Melek originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. She was tested before coming to the USA and her test was clear, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-150.

Foster Comments:  Whoever adopts Melek will be a lucky family. She is such a sweetheart! She was quite timid upon arrival, but has come a long way. I would expect her timidness will come back for a short time with her Furever Family. I live alone and Melek will benifit with 2 or more people in her home. I really wanted to keep her, but I must do what is best for this sweet girl.

Adoption Fee: $300.00

Foster Location: Goose Creek, South Carolina
