JIMMY

JIMMY ABIN#20-015 – M, 7 Months

Jimmy AB IN#20-015

Name: Jimmy

Age: 7 mo born 6/19

Size: puppy, weight 27 lbs

Color: orange and white

Breed: ½ English Setter ½ English Pointer from Greece

Socialization/Training: Jimmy is still a bit nervous of new places and people.  He initially has trouble entering enclosed rooms or certain doorways.  A little patience goes a long way with him though! Sometimes we just choose a different entrance or just give him the time he needs and treat him when he enters a new space.  Once he’s comfortable though, he makes himself right at home! He’s wary of strangers in our house and will bark and cower, but again, with time he will warm up. New noises can startle him, but once he has heard them multiple times, he does fine with them.  He’s very smart! He has quickly learned to wait until we say “ok” to eat and learned “off” for counter surfing very fast as well. We have had Jimmy about 4 weeks and he is becoming comfortable in his surroundings and has adjusted to most of the noises in our home.  It’s taken him a little longer to warm up to my husband, but he has turned the corner and with my husband and kids helping with feeding and treating him with yummy chicken, he is doing much better with them!

Good with Children:  Jimmy is great with older kids.  He should be in a home with kids over 8.  I have a 9 and 11 year old and he loves them, but is definitely attached to me.  He does startle when they get excited, but he’s getting better each day! It took him about 3 weeks to start playing with them and curling up in their beds for snuggles.

Good with Dogs:  Jimmy loves to play with other dogs!  Again, he just needs some time to warm up!  We have a little 16 lb mix and Jimmy adores him!  Our dog is very patient with his puppyness. He doesn’t have a lot of boundaries yet ;).  Our dog gives him a lot of confidence and I think Jimmy would do best in a home with another playful dog.

Good with Cats: Unknown

House Trained: I would say we are 99% percent there!  He has an occasional accident, but that is usually our fault!  As long as you give him regular breaks outside, he’s great! You do sometimes have to make sure he actually goes potty, since he gets distracted by snow and bark chips :).  We have just started training him to ring the bell on the door, so that may be an option for his new family too.Crate Trained:  Jimmy is in the crate when we are not here - we don’t trust him not to get into mischief!  He sometimes barks for a few minutes, but settles down after that. The longer we have had him the more comfortable he is in there.  He has also gone into his crate voluntarily when he’s fallen off our bed while sleeping! HAHA! Sometimes in the evenings if he’s super

tired and gets a bit crazy, we’ll have him take a break in his crate and will nap.  If we tell him “crate, Jimmy”, he’ll go right in and then we give him a treat. Most nights he will fall asleep on our bed and we move him after a midnight potty break into the crate and he sleeps all night.  He’ll usually go right in after he comes back inside. He will also go in at times when he feels overwhelmed. It’s definitely a safe space for him. He also enjoys rolling around in there and playing with his blanket!

Leash Trained: A work in progress!  He enjoys walks, loves chasing leaves and prefers being with our dog rather than a walk alone.  If he feels overwhelmed, he may lay down, but with some pets and patience, he’ll be up and ready to go again.

Activity Level: He’s a typical Setter mix, lots of energy and running, but loves a soft couch and snuggles in the evening, and mid mornings on the weekend!  He still has a ton of puppy left in him, which is awesome! He’s an absolute hoot! He still has that sideways puppy run, which I love!

Fence: He has not challenged our fence at all.  Since he loves to run so much, he would do best in a yard with a fence though.  He is curious about what is happening outside our fence, so we’re very careful when we open up any gates.

Medical History: Jimmy is currently going through deworming and he will be neutered on Mar 10. He is up to date on Vaccines and microchipped. Jimmy originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He was tested right before coming to the USA and his tests were negative, but the parasite can remain dormant for up to 7 years, so his new family must commit to testing him annually for the next 7 years.

Foster Comments: Jimmy is amazing.  He is such a sweetheart and will be a great family member!  He loves to be with his people, but mostly wants to be with me.  If I get up to do anything, he’s right there next to me. His first few days, he was pretty shut down, so it’s been really rewarding to see him come out of his shell.  He’s a pretty sensitive little guy, but with lots of love and patience he will thrive! Jimmy won’t give it away, you’ll have to earn his trust, but it will be SO worth it!!

He has the best velvety ears - that’s from the pointer in him!  He is especially adorable when it’s windy and he chases leaves. His jowels sometimes get caught in his teeth and he has the best pinky, spotted snout!  He also cocks his little head when he hears some noises, it’s adorable! Anyone will be lucky to have him. He’s a true sweet pea. You can check out Jimmy’s Instagram page at jimmythesetterpointer to see more photos and videos of this silly setter!
