House trained: Yes. She had some accidents in the house when she first came here but has not had any since her hernia was repaired (I think it was causing pressure on her)
Crate trained: Yes, she prefers a dog bed or the couch but doesn’t complain in the crate

Activity Level: Mellow. While she does enjoy being in the yard, she is not high energy, and likes to curl up in a dog bed close to her people. She likes to play in the yard with her foster siblings and sniff out bugs and bunnies. And she throws a beautiful point when she finds their scent!
Fence: Hard Fence preferred. Jackie has some vision impairment and is not a good candidate for IF.
Behavior: Jackie is a very mellow and fairly independent dog. She goes in and out our doggie door during the day and checks out the yard with her foster siblings. She is also up for a good snuggle and nap on the couch with you, or in a dog bed close to you. She is also very fond of tummy rubs.
Medical History: Jackie is spayed, had a hernia repaired, and is UTD on all vaccines and HWP. She does have PRA, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (Similar to Macular Degeneration in people). She does fine during daylight hours, even goes in and out the doggie door and up and down the 3 steps off the deck to the yard, but she does not see well at night.
Foster Comments: Jackie is a sweetheart (well, okay she’s a Setter so I guess that’s a given…) She has had a hard life, and was surrendered to us by a breeder, who didn’t lavish much love and attention on his dogs. She’s healthier now and is a happy dog. She has some vision impairment, but she has learned her way around our house and has no problems. She even discovered the doggie door on her own and goes in and out at will. However, she has PRA, and does not see well at night, even in the house. She gets along well with my large group of dogs, even with the grouchy old man. We do crate her or confine her to the “dog room” at night because of the impaired vision and she will growl at the other dogs if she senses them but can’t see them. Because of the vision impairment I don’t think she would do well with cats. She puts her total trust in you when taking her outside on a leash at night, and she has learned to go down the steps in the dark when you tell her “Step! Step” and come back up them with a verbal “Up! Up!” She apparently was never taught any commands, and doesn’t seem inclined to learn any now, although she will sit for you to put on or take off her leash. She loves, loves dog treats, and gets right in there with my group of 8 when it is snack time. She does need to go to a home without a lot of steps (I keep a baby gate across my basement stairs to keep her safe).

Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000 mile distance between adopters & foster home. Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000 mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000 mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog.
