When she was picked up as a stray it was stated she had mange but her medical records state her skin scrapings were negative for mange. Her medical records state she had copious fleas, dermatitis and alopecia. Her records also state she had a previous hip fracture that was healed. She shows no signs of any lameness. No limp. She runs with no signs of a fracture.

Foster Comments: Oh my darlin Clementime. Clementine was picked up as a stray along with her brother Charley (now Barley) in San Antonio Texas. She had very little hair and was very thin.

I’ve had her a month now and she has come such a long way in very little time. I have a feeling she was on the streets for quite a while in her short life. She really didn’t have a clue what a home was! You could tell she had never seen a T.V. before. She did not know how to play with toys. After a week and much encouragement from my dog, she started to play but all she played with was an empty water bottle. She now loves her squeeky toys and plays keep away and tug of war with my little dog. This poor dog didn’t know what fun was! She tries to play with my cat like a dog but the cat puts her in her place!

She has 3 fear issues:

Fear of the leash. She will run when she sees it but is fine with the retractable leash because it doesn’t look like a leash.  Once on the leash, she is fine.

She has a fear of strangers like many strays but is getting so much better with that. She just tries to disappear when someone approaches her. She is trying really hard to work up the courage to approach people. It will take some time but I think once she realizes people are good, she’ll be more social. She doesn’t seem to have as big a fear with kids. Food and treats always helps!

She is afraid of the car. This is going to be her biggest hurdle. I don’t think she really gets car sick. She drools and bubbles as soon as she sees she’s going into the car. I want to bring her everywhere with me to introduce her to the good life and exciting adventures but this is a real fear for her. I’m trying “Quiet Moments” calming aid and it may help a little. I wish i could hypnotize her! We went to the dog park today and she enjoyed the other dogs who gave her space at first and she was even approaching their owners but the getting there! My hope is one day something will just click and she’ll look forward to going places.

Now for the best of Clementime which is a lot! She is a sweet sweet dog that is loving the good life to the fullest. She does not have a mean bone in her body. I have never seen one sign of aggression in her. She has never snarled, snapped, or growled (except at another dog if they approach her too fast). No food aggression. I can take her food away or a bone and she gives it up willingly. She did gobble her food and then make a b line to my dogs food but now knows that is not allowed so just lays and stares until my dog is finished. All i have to say to correct her with anything is “No no no” quietly and she listens right away.

She is very loving and devoted to her human. She is quiet and easy going. She will let her human do anything to her without a struggle. She lets me clip her nails, brush her, clean her ears, hug her and even give her a bath. She doesn’t even struggle when i pick her up to put her in the car but then the drooling starts. She loves it when i tell her she’s a good, good girl. She almost smiles! She’s obedient. She comes when i call her (unless I have a leash in my hand) but she’s even getting better at that. She’s learning to sit. She doesn’t beg. She’s not a velcro dog but wants to be where you are. She goes in her crate with just a nudge and is fine while she’s in there. I don’t always put her in the crate when I go out and she’s good in the house. Not destructive at all. She has no fear of loud noises or thunder. She likes water. She only barks when someone knocks on the door. She is fine around respectful children. She is not a runner. She loves her nice safe home.

I have been borrowing my Grand dog because Clementine seems to gain confidence from her.

I think a confident brother or sister would be great for her.

All this little dog needs to blossom is a calm loving person. She’s very easy to live with and causes me zero stress. I know there is someone out there who wants a real best friend.
