BURKE AB#18-138 – M, 11 Months

BURKE AB#18-138 – M, 11 Months

Foster dog name:  Burke

Gender:  Male

Age:  11 months

Size/Weight:   pounds

Color:  Tri Color

Breed:  English Setter

Good with Children:  Yes, but might be too active for small children.

Good with Dogs:  Yes.

Good with Cats:  Not tested

House trained:  Yes

Crate trained:  Work in progress.  Sometimes he will go right in for treats, other times, he will not come near the crate.  He sometimes barks for a few minutes when I leave.

Leash trained:  Work in progress.

Behavior:  Burke is a cuddler.  He will try to sit in your lap when you sit down.  He has bed privileges and will snuggle with me during the night.  He wants to be in the same room with his people and if you get up he is right by your side.

Activity Level:  Burke likes to play with toys. He will chase my setter around the yard and is one of the few dogs that has been able to keep up.  In the house, he is always trying to get my River to play with him.  River isn’t a player, but Burke has been persistent and they will now play mouth with each other.  He can be a bit of a barker when he is outside.  I heard him “roo” for the first time a few days ago when he heard a siren.

Fence:  I always think a fence is best for a dog and their family.  Burke likes to be outside and run so a fenced in yard would be perfect for him.

Medical History:  Burke will be neutered November 8 and is up-to-date on vaccines.

Foster Comments:  Burke is a sweet young dog.  It’s obvious he hasn’t had any training as he has many traits of a much younger pup.  He still mouths (puts your hand in his mouth, but does not bite).  He should have been taught months ago that pups don’t do this.  Anything he finds on the floor goes in his mouth.  Burke would do best with older children as he likes to walk under foot and could knock small children over.  He is learning sit and is doing well.  He did not know how to climb stairs when he came to my home.  It took him a day to learn and now he goes up and down sometimes only touching 3 or 4 steps (out of 7).  He is a thing of beauty when he runs.  He gets along well with my dog and is always trying to play with him.  Burke is a clean slate and needs someone to write his future.  He is very trainable and needs a home with lots of patience where someone has time to spend with him.
