Breed:  English Setter Mix

Good with Children:  Yes – but is still a puppy and likes to jump up and chew on people.

Good with Dogs:  Yes

Good with Cats:  Not tested

House trained:  Not completely – we’ve had construction at the house and he had to use a different door.  But taking him out every hour seems to be working…sometimes.

Crate trained:  He will go into the crate for a treat.  If he knows you are in the house while he is in the crate, he will cry.  But he will then settle down and be good.  

Leash trained:  He is good for a puppy.  Will usually walk right with me.     

Behavior:  Azor is both attentive and independent.  He loves attention, but is happy laying on a dog bed chewing on a toy or bone.  I’ve noticed that when I go to give pets to one of the other dogs, he will come up and kind of push his way in.  I still pet the other dogs and he has to wait his turn.  Everything for him right now is a learning experience.  He tries to stand up at the counter, but is learning the off command.  I have blocked him from getting into the kitchen and he did very well, by sitting and then lying down.  The dog whisperer would be proud!  

Activity Level:  Azor loves to play with toys.  He is a proficient toy de-stuffer.  He will chase whatever you throw and bring it back.  He still needs to learn the “drop it” command.  He also loves to play with other dogs.  He and my foster Georgie will play forever outside.  They chase each other, chew on each other and have a grand time.  Azor will sometimes get the zoomies and run through the house jump on the bed and then do it all again.  At bedtime I will sometimes have to separate him and Georgie because they will play long past bedtime. 

Fence:  I always think a fence is best for a dog and their family. Azor loves to wander around the yard find a place to plop down and take a rest.  He loves to be outside to play with the other dogs.  So I think a fenced in yard would be a wonderful place for him to play and lay in the sun. 

Medical History:  Azor is neutered and up-to-date on vaccines.  He is from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He was removed from Greece as a young puppy, so it is unlikely he would ever develop Leishmaniasis, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-150.

Foster Comments:  Azor is so much fun to have around.  It’s nice to have a puppy in the house.  We’ve had some issues with housetraining, but he’s finally getting to know that he must potty outside.  Since he is a puppy, he puts everything in his mouth; shoes, socks, arms, hands, noses, etc.  Having a puppy is a good reminder to keep things put away.  He is a sweet puppy and loves to meet everyone.  He probably will not get much bigger than he is now.  He looks like a setter/pointer mix, but he is going to be on the smaller side.  He weighs 30 pounds now and probably won’t be much bigger than 40+ pounds. He’s a smart puppy and would do well with training.  He knows sit and is pretty good with “come”.  He will definitely be someone’s best friend.  With training, I think he could be a service or therapy dog.
