ARLO

ARLO AB#19- 154 – M, 1 1/2 Years

Name: Arlo

Gender: Male

Age: estimated to be 18 months (birthday about 3/18)

Size/Weight: 45 pounds—trim athletic build

Color: Tri  –white with black & brown spotting

Breed: English Setter, Field

Medical History: Arlo came to us neutered and is up to date on shots. He is microchipped, on heartworm and flea & tick prevention.

Good with Children & Cats: stayed with a family with children & cats overnight when on transport—it was reported that he did very well with both.

Good with Dogs:  yes, enjoys wrestling with our 19 month old English Setter.  Does fine when meeting new dogs.

House trained:  Yes.

Leash trained:   He enjoys his walks alone or with the pack. He is a puller—this is a work in progress. We have found a harness works best on him.

Crate trained: He will go in a crate, but will bark for a while. Eventually will settle.

Fence: A containment is always preferred. We trained Arlo on an electric fence –our system has receivers that can be tone only-- which he has not challenged.  A large fenced in yard would be another option to help run off that setter energy. He is not a runner, in fact has great recall.

Training / Behavior: Arlo is a very sweet, attentive dog that has had training in his past—he is a smart dog that takes to training easily.  He and will sit, go down, respond to No, and is very good on recall. He was a quick study on the electric fence in a few days.

Found as a stray in Kansas, he gives the impression that he his past was from a loving place.  He is reserved when in new situations—deflecting to his person for assurance that all is ok.  He quickly integrated into our pack and within three days called it his own.

While he really enjoys the resident dogs, he may be happy as an only dog—provided he had a person (s) that he could be with a good part of the time and have an active outlet to burn off his energy—possible walking/hiking partner.

Foster Comments:  Arlo is a great dog and has the qualities that a new family will welcome—attentive, sweet, looking to bond, gentle, sleeps through the night, loves car rides, takes direction well, keeps the chewing to chews. He doesn’t care for the rain – and will do his business quickly…. Honestly, if we didn’t have three dogs already, we would adopt him. But that would mean we could not foster, and that is what we want to do—help dogs over their bad situations, and get them ready for their new family.  Arlo is a wonderful dog, that has the potential and willingness to learn how to be your great dog.

Adoption Fee: $300.00

Dog Location: Port Crane, NY
