GEORGIE AB#18-001-1 – M, 3 Years
Gender: Male
Age: 3 years
Weight: 40 pounds
Color: Black and White
Breed: English Setter Mix
Good with Children: OK, but timid
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Unknown
House trained: Yes - Mostly
Crate trained: Georgie will usually go in the crate on his own. Sometimes you have to encourage him to go in.
Leash trained: He is getting used to the leash. He will sometimes try to back up and out of his collar or harness. A Martingale collar is essential for him so he isn’t able to back out of it.
Behavior: Georgie is from a hoarding situation and it appears he was kept outside and is unsocialized with people. He loves to be outside, by himself or with my dog. He was not housetrained when I started to foster him and he had lots of accidents in the house. He is doing much better and usually will go to the door when he wants to go out. Trouble is he really likes to be outside and will sometimes go out and just sit on the deck, and forget he has to potty.
I decided to let him lay on my bed and sleep on it as a way of becoming more familiar to him. He is very friendly when he is on the bed. He will lick my hand, give me kisses, let me pet him all over. But on the ground, he will run from me and it will take him a few minutes to come to me even when I have a treat. I have been getting down to his level, to see if that makes him more comfortable. It’s a work in progress.
Activity Level: Georgie loves to play with and chew the stuffing and squeakers out of toys. If he is on the bed and I throw a toy, he will fetch it. On the floor, he will not fetch a toy. He loves to play with his foster fur brother. Georgie chases his foster brother River around the yard and they tussle. He seems to be gentle with other dogs.
Fence: I always think a fence is best for a dog and their family. I think a fence is especially needed for Georgie since he likes to be outside. The thing with Georgie is he won’t come in the house if he sees me near the door. I have to hide and then he will come in and I can go and close the door. We are working on using the leash to bring him in to show him it’s okay for someone to be near the door when he enters. He’s fine on the way out and will zip past me to go outside.
Medical History: Georgie is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He is also microchipped. He seems to be very healthy.
