LAYLA AB#17-176

Foster dog name: LAYLA

Gender: Spayed Female

Age: 9 months

Size/Weight: 38 pounds

Color: Tri-color (black, brown, white) + freckles

Breed: English Setter/ Springer Mix

QUICK OVERVIEW:

Socialization/training: 100% puppy. Loves to play all day!

Good with Children: Yes.

Good with Dogs: Yes.

Good with Cats: Unknown.

House trained: Yes but Layla still needs to be let outside often (every 1-2 hours). Her cue is to stand by the door when she needs to go outside.

Crate trained: No. Layla does not tolerate the crate. She goes ballistic if crated and left home alone. The confinement causes her extreme distress.

Leash trained: Yes, but will pull if squirrel sightings.

Activity Level: For example, Playful? Laid back?, etc. High-octane! To provide an example, Layla currently attends doggie daycare 5 days/week, 8 hours/day, and still has energy leftover to come home and play with her 9-year-old, K9, foster sister. Layla is very energetic and loves to play, chase, and fetch so she’s seeking a backyard with very regular access and other canine companions. She loves playing with other dogs especially those who also love to run, chase, share toys, and play tug-of-war. She holds her own with dogs twice her size and plays with dogs of all breeds.

Fence: PLEASE STATE IF FENCE IS REQUIRED or if leash walking is sufficient? hard fence? height? invisible trained?

Yes! Fenced backyard is absolutely perfect for Layla but not an electric fence. She loves to be able to run free and sprint after squirrels and birds.

Behavior: For example, cuddler? independent? attentive? Layla is all puppy right now with typical puppy tendencies. She loves affection and being treated like part of the family with couch and bed privileges. Layla is very sweet, gentle, fun, playful, happy, and loving, but is a special needs dog emotionally and has severe separation anxiety which prohibits being left alone and requires constant companionship.

Medical History: Spayed on 1-2-2018, microchipped, UTD all vaccinations, HWP and flea/tick prevention.

Foster Comments:

NOTES:

1/ Her teeth are currently in perfect shape. She had a dental Oravet treatment on 1-2-2018. The vet highly recommends daily brushing to keep them healthy. She is still in the chewing phase and will chew anything and everything.

2/ Looking for daytime companionship because Layla won’t tolerate being crated, has severe separation anxiety, and does not do well left alone. If working outside the home, she does extremely well at doggie daycare and is loved there by both humans and canines alike.

3/ She is a typical puppy and can find mischief if unsupervised. Prior experience with the puppy phase is a bonus.

4/ Fenced backyard with free roaming privileges would be great for Layla because her great joy is to run and sprint freely and play like a wild child. She is a much calmer puppy if this need is met. Leash walking doesn’t give her the same release and we find that she chews more when she has nervous pent-up energy.

5/ Positive reinforcement, especially regarding house training, has produced wonderful results. Fortunately, Layla is very treat motivated.

6/ Couch and bed essentials, such as night time sleeping cuddled in bed, are some of her favorite places to be.

7/ Other canine siblings would be ideal. A meet & greet with K9 and human siblings is welcomed and encouraged, if possible. (Northwest Indiana.)
