JILL AB#17-171-1

Gender: female
Age: approximately 2 yrs
Weight: 27 # (underweight)
Color: White & Orange
Breed: English Setter

Socialization: Jill has had very little to no socialization and training. She recognizes her name but does not have recall. She is extremely timid of everything. She likes to find a safe chair or bed and will stay in that spot until made to move. She acts afraid of her food bowl and will back away if her tags click against it or there is background noise she doesn’t like. When spooked she will run back to her “safe” spot.

Behavior: Jill loves attention. She will cuddle up in the bed at night and sleep all night long. She loves sitting in a lap and soaking up attention while watching TV. She slept very calmly in my lap throughout the noise associated with Star Wars Rogue 1.

Good with Children: Unknown. We have not had her around children but have not found any adults she doesn’t warm up to and accept attention from.

Good with Dogs: Yes. She is very accepting of all dogs she has been around. There have been occasions when she has told overly eager dogs to back off but it was not done aggressively…just the typical leave me alone behavior.

Good with Cats: Yes. She is also OK around my chickens but they are contained and not free roam.

House trained: Yes. We have only had one poo accident and 1 maybe 2 pees (2 wet spots in close proximity and time)

Crate trained: Yes. We only crated her at night the first week. She whined a very little bit then settled in for the night.

Leash trained:She is not leash trained. She pulls on the lead. She is so timid of everything I would like her to feel more comfortable in her surroundings before instituting too much instruction.

Activity Level: Moderate. She has shown a playful side but her timidity holds her back. She does love to run in the fenced yard. Inside she is very laid back. She is fearful as she approaches the house door and will scoot through. She is learning to sit while we remove her leads.

Fence: We have mostly kept her on a long lead in the back yard basically because of her lack of recall and this being our “snow of the decade” I don’t want to stay outside trying to coax her to me. The few times I have let her run free, she has made no attempt to go over or dig under our 4’ fence. If no fence, she would definitely need to be on a leash, not because she wants to run away but because she would run from whatever spooked her.

Medical History:Jill is spayed; HW negative; fecal negative; UTD on vaccinations & microchipped.

Foster Comments: Jill is an absolute love. It is almost painful to see how scared she is of normal activities and sounds. She startles at any loud or sudden noises (but did sleep cuddled up next to me without issue on New Years Eve). Sudden movements will cause her to flee. If we are outside and a firework goes off she freezes but will relax if you tell her it is “OK”. She spooks easily with things surrounding the entrance doors to the house but has calmed some.

She identifies what she considers a “safe” zone, usually a chair or a bed, and will stay in that area until encouraged or made to move. She is hesitant to eat from her bowl unless someone stands beside her although there have been a few occasions where she was brave enough to enter the kitchen on her own for some kibble and water. I believe that with patience she will become a very loving family member.
