Foster Home Comments: GRACIE IS LOOKING FOR A FOSTER OR FOSTER TO ADOPT HOME

Gracie an AKC English Setter who came from a loving home. Gracie's owner had a terminal illness and asked Above and Beyond English Setter Rescue to help find a home for Gracie and littermate Jade.

Gracie is a very sweet, friendly dog who loves people. She’s a good girl in the house and playful outside, running around with the other dogs.

Fence: Electric fence, leash-walking situation, or dual physical/electric fence. You wouldn’t know it to look at her, but Gracie can scale an EIGHT FOOT oak board with no foot-holds. However, she is a quick-learn on an electric fence and for two months at the foster home, has respected the boundaries. In her original home, a 5-6’ privacy fence had an electric wire run on the top and the bottom to keep the dogs from going over. Gracie came with an e-collar and an electric fence transmitter, so only the cost of wire would be required to get her set up on an electric fence.

Good with Children: No. Gracie loves kids, but she has a severe startle response when woken by surprise, so teenagers & older would be best. She is a very sweet, good-natured dog.

Good with Dogs:  No. Gracie barks at neighbor dogs but then plays with them. She generally gets along very well with two resident foster dogs, but again because of her significant startle response, it is best for her to be an only dog.

Good with Cats: No

House-trained:  Yes.

Crate trained:  Yes. She walks in on command, faster for a treat. She barks when you get home until let out.

Leash trained: Yes. Gracie is a good walker on leash.

Activity Level:  Low-to-medium.  She is very low-key inside. Gracie doesn't play with toys when tried tossing to her - she reacted to them being tossed but didn't get them and bring them back to play some more.

Behavior:  Gracie is happy-go-lucky and loves people of all ages. She is a nice, sweet dog. Her one issue, which is a "biggie" is her significant startle response when she is asleep and disturbed. This could be by waking her up or just accidentally bumping her while she is sleeping. She does snap, when startled awake.  For this reason & their safety, no children, dogs or cats that may accidentally brush up against her while she is sleeping. She will not be a dog to sleep in bed with you. When she is awake, she a sweet, middle aged, affectionate face licking fur friend. This negative behavior may be able to be modified with careful positive reinforcement by having a treat handy when she is woken up. But this will be slow and take a bit of time and patience.

Gracie would be terrific for a person 55+ who wants a dog to walk with.  Gracie can jump straight up about 4 ft so she wouldn't be deterred by a physical fence.

Medical History:  Grace came with all her vet records, from birth on! She fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and on Heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She comes with AKC paperwork, including a fascinating family tree and photos of her parents. At her recent physical, she wasfound to be healthy.

Adoption fee: $225.00
