CHARLIE AB#17-143

Gender: Male
Age: 2 years old
Weight: 60 pounds
Color: White and Orange
Breed: Setter/Pointer/Lab mix?

Socialization: He is confident but very prone to be startled with unknown or loud noises in the house. Very responsive to his name and comes when called. Super affectionate, likes to be talked to and loves to be touched and hugged. Loves pats and kisses.

Good with Children: Yes, with the young tween girls who accompanied him on his journey here. He doesn’t seem to mind younger children either. Shows no preference for either male or female human adults.

Good with Dogs: Yes, previously fostered with another rescued male. Both have a laid-back/happy personality. Charlie is curious about people and other dogs we encounter on his walks. He happily greets and is nice to dogs and people that I know – and allow him to meet.

Good with Cats: Unknown

House trained: Yes

Crate trained: Yes, but not happily – will settle quietly though. He now sleeps on a doggy bed in my bedroom at night. Charlie is confined to his doggy room (not crated) while I am away from home.

Leash trained: Yes, he has learned to walk in a nice heal on lead – very attuned to me, constantly looking at me to see what I’m doing, where I’m going. Reliably obeys commands for: come; sit; stay; down; as well as good; no; and off.

Activity Level: Medium energy (because he is such a couch potato in the evening). Happy/laid-back personality.  Likes to chase after squirrels (birds he doesn’t notice so much anymore).

Fence REQUIRED: He is a runner, and quite tall. Leash walks are not enough for this boy. Athough current home has a 6’ barrier fence, I believe he would be happy and respect a 4-5' fence.

Behavior: Wants and seeks human attention and clearly wants to please. He is a kisser and loves hugs and cuddles. Loves snuggling on the couch. He is a “leaner” when standing next to you. Loves attention and will put his paw on your arm if sitting next to you and you are not giving him enough attention.

He “talks” – sort of a low groan/moan, particularly when asking for belly rubs or greeting me. Charlie is very smart and curious. He is a good boy and hasn’t destroyed or gotten into anything that he shouldn’t in the house.

Medical History: Neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines. On monthly heartworm preventative and tick/flea control

Foster Comments: I just adore this boy. He is smart, sweet, affectionate and attentive. It is obvious that he is happy to be here. Also, not a mean bone in his body. Even when I literally had to stuff him in his crate after his neuter surgery with the 3-collar on – he struggled, but never threatened me at all with either growling or a show of teeth.

He would be equally happy as an only dog or as a “sibling” to another dog.

He clearly wants to please. Has learned a reliable sit, he knows both the verbal and hand signal. Not so great on stay, as he follows me around like a shadow.

He talks to me (sort of a low moan), especially when greeting me or asking for belly rubs.

He goes “shopping” regularly in the toy box– and likes to take his toys outside and carry them around.. He loves balls and will chase after them but is not yet so good at bringing them back. Enjoys squeaky toys without destroying them and loves his femur bones stuffed with peanut butter.
