PRINCE (aka TAZ)

Foster dog name: Prince aka Taz

Gender: Male

Age: 11 months

Size/Weight:32 pounds, Will not be a big guy. 

Color:  White with black ticking and solid black ears.  He has a cute cowlick spot in the middle of his head that makes a small point.  

Breed: English Setter, could be a mix due to his smaller size. 

Socialization/training: Taz comes when called, knows a few simple commands, knows the word treat, is gentle taking treats and does not resource guard. We see him initiate play with other dogs and he now plays with toys. When meeting new people, Taz is quite shy, but his curiosity helps him overcome his hesitation more rapidly now. Rides well in the car and enjoys going to pet friendly stores. 

Good with Children: Taz is shy when meeting new people. He tends to keep distance between himself and younger children that are very active. 

Good with Dogs: Yes, loves to play with the other dogs. 

Good with Cats: shows no interest in the barn cats

House trained: Yes, uses the dog door independently

Crate trained: Yes he is but does not require crating. He is not a danger to himself and does not get into things he should not. 

Leash trained: Reasonable on a leash, walks with the pack of between 5 to 11 dogs daily. 

Activity Level: Moderate. Loves to run – really flying low to the ground! – and play chase with the other dogs. Shows a higher level of prey drive. 

Fence: A physical fence is what he has at his foster parents’ home. 

Behavior: Taz is a sweet, shy, gentle dog who is pure joy to be with. He does not beg during human mealtime. Is a quiet dog most of the time, only barking when there is a reason to alert his humans to company or to answer another dog. Taz sleeps in our room at night and sometimes in our bed. Chewing bones and antlers is new to him, but he will now choose what he wants from the bins. 

Medical History: Up to date on vaccines, Neutered, Microchipped, Heartworm Negative and on preventative, no significant medical history . 

Prince is from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He has tested negative, but the parasite that is transmitted by sandflies can remain dormant in the system.  Potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years.  Your vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab.  The test typically costs $120-150 but varies from vet to vet.

Foster Comments: Prince has been called Taz after he was with us for a few weeks because he gained weight and confidence to become a blur of activity!  His feet barely touch the ground when he is running. He is a happy dog who is very grateful for attention, affection, treats, food and snuggling. Scratching the side of his cheek and belly rubs are the most favorite spots. Taz is very good about having his nails trimmed and being groomed. We have worked on his teeth as the canines were deeply stained. 

We have observed Taz to be moderately interested in birds with a high prey drive for them. He watches the birds come to the feeders in the side yard. Taz loves the snow, being outside and being included in household activities. Initiating play with other dogs, being part of a group and using food dispensing toys/puzzles are skills Taz has begun to enjoy.

Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000 mile distance between adopters & foster home. Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000 mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000 mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog. Transports to far West states, from Eastern states, may have additional restrictions.
