BART AB#19 -276- M, 7 Years

Gender: Male

Age: 7 Years

Size/Weight: 46 lbs

Color: White & Red

Breed: English Setter

Socialization/training: Well socialized with people & dogs, house trained. Knows  basic commands and how to heel.

Good with Children: Haven't tested yet, will update

Good with Dogs: Yes. Best with other bird-dogs of both sexes, and females around his size. Is not a fan of big physical males, but will tolerate if they are respectful of his space. He does not like to be surprised from behind. Generally ignores other dogs and exists peacefully around them. Does not shows signs of guarding or possessive behavior with food/treats/water/crate. Toys unknown.

Good with Cats: Unknown, can't test

House trained: Mostly. Will mark if left unattended and loose.

Crate trained: Almost--he seems to prefer a 36" wire crate. Did not like a large plastic crate and pulled apart a 40" wire crate.

Leash trained: Yes, though he will have gentle bursts when he notices a bird. Heels on the right side. Best with a harness.

Activity Level:  Lower, with spurts of energy. Very low-key in the house. Loves to walk as long as you do. Occasionally gets the zoomies, but settles quickly.

Fence:  He is known to jump 4-foot fences (previous owner). He does not test our 6-foot fence. He does seem to have a devious side, so I would not leave him unattended in a yard no matter how high the fence.

Behavior:  What a sweetie! Bart is a mild-mannered, attentive gentleman who just wants to love. Bart bonds quickly with people and is very much a shadow-dog. You will never be alone with Bart around! That being said, he is very respectful of space and is not a velcro dog, unless you ask him to be. He is very smart and eager to please. Bart's main vices are counter- and trash-surfing when left unattended. He will need to be crated or behind a closed door if left home alone.

Medical History:  Tested positive for Lyme and Ehrlichia, currently on antibiotics. Neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines and preventatives

Foster Comments: He knows to heel when walking (right side!), sit, lay down, and takes food and treats very gently. Crate-training is going well now--he likes his crates on the small side. Roomier ones seem to give him more anxiety. He is tolerant of all dogs but would be happy as a singleton as well. He is very birdy when in a field, but is a pretty gentle walker around the neighborhood.

Adoption Fee: $250.00

Foster Location: Union Bridge, MD
