EGAN AB#IN 18-049-4 – M, 1-2 Years

Foster dog name:  Egan

Gender: Male - neutered

Age: 1 -2 yrs

Size/Weight: 39.5#

Color: orange and white

Breed: English Setter

Socialization/training:  Egan was found as a stray in Greece, he has no formal training.  He has picked up the command “sit” very easily and we are working on “wait”.  He seems eager to please once he understands what is being asked.

Good with Children:  I have not had him around children but when at outdoor restaurants he is very calm and accepting when children come up to “pet the doggy”.

Good with Dogs:    He is a little shy when meeting new dogs but is very accepting and wants to play with all he’s met. He is currently one of 5 at home.

Good with Cats:  Unknown -I don’t have cats. He does have some prey drive at least towards outdoor birds.  He ignores the inside parrot.

House trained:  He is doing much better but this is still a work in progress.

Crate trained: I do not use a crate

Leash trained:  Egan will pull lightly on the lead and will range back and forth in front of you.  More practice is needed.

Activity Level: For example, Playful? Laid back?, etc. Egan is a combination of activity levels ranging from zoom to snooze.  He does love a free run in the back yard.

Fence:  A fence is required, he will go over our 4’ chain link.  He is learning the invisible fence.

Behavior:  Egan does well on his own but loves attention.  He likes to snuggle in the bed beside you at night time. Egan does exhibit some protective behaviors. Egan's foster mom can best discuss this with potential adopters.

Medical History:  Egan is UTD on shots, fecal negative and on heartworm and flea & tick  preventatives (a HW recheck in 5 months is recommended) and neutered. He is microchipped. Egan originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He tested negative for Leishmaniasis before coming to the US, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to having him tested annually for the next 7 years.

Foster Comments: Egan is one of our International rescues and was found as a stray in Greece. He is a little shy and loud noises will cause him to startle.  He marked when he first arrived but that has settled down as he has become more comfortable with his new environment.  We laugh as one of his favorite things to mark are his new girlfriend’s hind feathers - luckily his aim isn’t too good! He is not totally house trained yet but does much better when given enough outside time.  When playing outside he can run like the wind but inside he is calm and sedate. He is a very gentle love of a pup and  is OK alone, but he soaks up attention and loves to sleep cuddled up by your side in the bed at night. He will be a wonderful companion for anyone lucky enough to have him in their life. He’s a temptation for foster failure!!

Adoption Fee: 300.00

Foster Location: Charleston, SC
