Drake

Foster dog name: Drake
Gender: Male
Age: 2 - 3 years old
Size/Weight: 39 lbs.
Color: White/Orange
Breed: English Setter

Socialization/training: Drake is sweet and is very friendly to everyone he meets. He loves to go for rides in the car and is a great rider. He hops right in and lies down. If you are looking for a buddy to go with you on errands, he’s your guy! I have taken him to work with me a couple of times and he has been the perfect gentleman. He does like to jump up and gives great hugs, but does so very gently. He will now sit before he eats and given treats. Since the two resident dogs don’t like to share their space in my bed, he is fine with sleeping on a doggie bed next to my bed. I’m sure he would rather be up in the bed, but he’s good with it and rises up on the bed in the morning for cuddles. He occasionally gets on the couch, but most of the time he sleeps on the floor or in the crate with the door open.

Good with Children: There are no children in his foster home and he hasn’t been around children. Since he jumps up and likes to give hugs I feel like he would be fine with older children, but might knock little ones down.

Good with Dogs: Yes. Drake was a little nervous and grumbly with my two resident dogs in the first couple of days, but has now settled in and gets along with them well. He may just need gentle introductions until he feels secure.

Good with Cats: There are no cats in his foster home, but with his prey drive I believe he would not be good with small furry animals.

House trained: Yes

Crate trained: Drake has never been put in the crate with the door closed so I don’t know how he would handle it. He will go into the crate on his own and lay down on occasion with the door open. He doesn’t seem like he does well in confined areas. The lower baby gates are useless also if he really wants to get over it. Closed doors are a much better option. He has free roam of the house with exception of a few areas when I’m gone.

Leash trained: This is still work in progress. I’ve been taking him on small daily walks when weather permits. He always thinks he’s going for a ride in the car when the leashes come out so he’s all gang busters going out the door. He starts out zig zagging, but straightens out after a bit. He is still backward when we come across new people on walks.

Activity Level: Moderate/High. Drake is a laid back and well behaved guy in the house. He loves to run around the yard, but will come back to the door to be let back in after a short time. He loves to be with his people. He is very high energy and gets very excited when I leave and return home. This boy has a vertical jump that would make a basketball player jealous.

Fence: A physical fence would be the ideal situation for him. I have no experience with invisible fences, but he’s a smart boy and I’m sure he could be trained easily. If his adopter doesn’t have fencing and would be willing to do multiple walks and/or dog park daily I would take that into consideration also.

Behavior: Drake is a sweet and affectionate boy that loves to cuddle and loves attention. He thinks he’s a lap dog on occasion and loves to be close to his people. He’s very independent in the house and pretty much ignores the other two resident dogs and does his own thing.

Medical History: Drake is UTD on vaccines, heartworm negative, on heartworm preventatives, microchipped. He was neutered and had a dental cleaning on 3/12/18.
