ARCHIE ABIN#19-108- M, 3 Years

ARCHIE

Gender: male

Age: 3 years old

Size/Weight: 48 lbs.

Color: Orange & White

Breed: English Setter

Good with Children:  Archie LOVES my two 3 ½ year old grandsons.  You will find him hanging with them, running alongside them, and waiting for them to throw a ball or just pet him.  He loves attention.

Good with Dogs: Yes, he gets along with both of my dogs.  Archie would love to have another dog to play with and love.

Good with Cats:  Unknown

House trained:  Archie is house trained.

Crate trained: Yes Archie is crate trained.  He goes in his crate well especially when offered a treat.  He sleeps in his crate at bedtime and doesn’t make a peep until I let him out in the morning.  I also crate him when I’m not home.

Leash trained: Archie loves to walk.  He walks with a harness and is getting better with his pulling.  When I first got him he was not good on a leash at all.  He would spin and pull constantly but has improved immensely with practice.   He will pull when he sees anything move which is typical for this breed.

Behavior: Archie is a meek and mild boy.  He was a street dog in Turkey and has learned well about being a house dog.  Words cannot describe how sweet and loving he is.  When he first arrived with me he would not leave my side.  He wouldn’t go outside unless I was outside.  If he realized I went inside he would come in immediately.  He now knows how to act like a dog.  He goes out in the yard with the other dogs and will even venture out by himself.  He stays out until he’s ready to come in even if the other dogs have come inside.  Archie responses well when told no or leave it.  He rides well in the car and loves car rides.  We have had many thunderstorms and they do not faze Archie.  He was also fine on the 4th of July with all the sounds from the fireworks.  He is a true gem.

Activity Level: He loves being outside in the yard running around.  He also loves to just sit by flowers in my yard waiting to see some insect flying. He has moments of being active and moments of just chilling. He usually settles down for the evening around 7:30pm.

Fence Required:.  Archie now has a 6ft privacy fence.  He loves running in the yard and a fence would be wonderful for him.

Medical History: Archie is fully vetted and microchipped.  He is healthy and is neutered. He is up to date on all shots. Archie is currently on Heartworm preventative and Flea/Tick Medication

Archie is from Turkey where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He has tested negative, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system. Potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Your vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The test typically costs $120-150 but varies from vet to vet.

Foster Comments: Archie has a very meek and mild attitude. He is incredibly sweet and affectionate. He loves resting his head on you.  He also doesn’t mind pretending he’s a lap dog.   He will let you pet him forever.  He’s very happy and loves everyone.  He loves me, my husband, my grandchildren, my dogs, and anyone that comes through the door.   He’s a beautiful boy and has so much love to give.    Archie came from Turkey and has adjusted to English.  Archie has never had an accident in his crate and has been using the crate since his arrival at my home.  When I put him down for the night I can walk by the crate several times and he doesn’t whine or bark.  He is very content in his crate.  Archie uses a dog door at my house that opens to a fenced in yard.  Archie knows his name and comes when called unless he’s in the yard watching a bird or squirrel.  He loves chewing on tennis balls and dog toys.  Archie loves playing with my other setter.  They wrestle, play tug of war, and run with each other in the yard. He also doesn't mind being herded by my Australian Cattle dog.  Archie is very smart and learned how to become a dog with the help of my two dogs.  I took him to the groomer when he first arrived.  He had many spots of matted fur.  He had a very positive experience there.  He did very well getting bathed, dried, a haircut, combed/brushed, and his nails trimmed. The girls there loved him. Archie is a wonderful boy who has an abundance of love to give.  Archie is my 2nd foster dog from Turkey.  There is something about these Turkish setters.  They are so loving and wanting to please.  You will not want to miss out on this boy.
