STELLA

STELLA ABIN#19-222 – F, 3 1/2 Years

Foster dog name: Stella (aka Momma Stella/aka Stella Rose/aka Stella Bo Bella!!

AB#: STELLA INAB#19-222

Gender: Female

Age: Approximately 3 yrs

Size/Weight:  40 lbs

Color:  Tri-Color

Breed:  English Setter

Socialization/training:  Stella is very social.  She LOVES people!  She loves going to the dog park which she does 2x a day!  She makes friends quickly and loves to run and play!  She has been on a few walks but needs leash training.  She comes when called or if you whistle.

Good with Children:  There are no children in her foster home but she has been around children at the dog park and is curious of them. She may be a little nervous of them if they run up on her, but she will warm up to them quickly.

Good with Dogs:  Stella has made lots of friends in her short few weeks in the USA!  She goes to the dog park 2X a day and plays well with dogs her size and smaller.  She loves to run and play.  I think she would thrive best in a home with a fur sister or brother to play with as she loves to play with her foster brother.

Good with Cats:  Has not been around cats since arriving in the US and considering her background (the streets of Greece) I suspect she may not do real well with them, but that has not been tested.  There are lots of rabbits in my area and she has a pretty strong small prey drive.

House trained:  Potty Trained for the most part (couple accidents) but quickly learned to use the doggie door.  Having to fend for herself in the past, she is very quick to snatch most anything from the countertops!  She also likes to tear up paper/magazines.  If you don’t pick up after yourself she’s quick to help…..and will drag your shoes and jeans, blankets, rugs outdoors…just for fun!!  She does know the word “no” and also listens when called!

Crate trained: Stella doesn’t put up too much of a fuss to go in her crate…although she’s had some freedom and of course would rather not.  She’s had to be crated a few hours a day and she does well.  Have been “testing” her outside the crate along with her foster brother and so far she’s passed with flying colors…she didn’t leave the dog bed (even when her foster brother taunted her!)  I was monitoring via live camera feed and was so proud of her!!

Leash trained: I wouldn’t say that she’s leash trained.  She has gone on some short walks and does great for a while and then pulls for a while.  Definitely needs more training but I think she’s eager to please.

Activity Level: Stella is a perfect combo.  She is a Big-Time Hugger of her Person.  Loves to be petted and loves to snuggle in your lap, next to you or in bed.  She is also very playful and figured out dog toys really quickly.  Her and her foster brother love to play keep away with the toys.  She gets the typical zoomies in the evening and with the right friend at the park, she can run and chase for hours!  She is very playful.  I think she would be happy to have a fur sister or brother to play with on a regular basis.  She is young (approx 3) and may exhibit increased energy once she is more familiar with her surroundings. She is birdy, but not overly obsessed.

Fence: I have a 5 foot rod iron fence and 6 ft block wall but I do not leave her unattended.  She has a tendency to stick her head under chain link fences where she can when at the dog park (actually got under one in seconds right in front of me….luckily into another fenced ball park!) and she can jump pretty high if she wants to.  I would recommend a 6 foot fence (maybe one that she can’t dig under) as she loves to be out in the yard and outside, but she has that desire to “run free”!  A yard and fur sibling to play with would be ideal!!  She also loves to get her harness on and go anywhere with her person.  She loves riding in the car!  She rides nicely in the backseat and on short jaunts loves to sit in the front passenger seat.

Behavior:She is all about her person.  She jumps up gently and hugs me every chance she gets (working on that☺)  At times it’s hard to just walk anywhere with her around as she is always just in front of my every step looking at me.  She tends to gravitate to men at the dog park although is super friendly with everyone.  She at times will jump into my lap if I’m sitting on the couch and other times just sit next to me and lay her head in my lap or plop her entire body across my lap!! (melt my heart!!)  She definitely knows her name and her recall is pretty good.  She also comes if you whistle.  She just loves to be with people!  She also loves to play with her foster Brittany brother and all her new friends at the park (her size and smaller).  She really quickly figured out the dog toys and is so cute tossing them around and amusing herself or playing keep away with her foster brother.  She is very cuddly.   Super affectionate!  Even gives occasional kisses!!

Medical History:  Stella is up-to-date on all shots, etc.  She had a litter of 5 pups approx 7 months ago. **Stella has tested positive for Whipworms and received 3 day treatment on 11/11. She will be retested in another week and another treatment if necessary (although it seems to have cleared up!).She suffered from diarrhea and vomiting which caused dehydration, but those have been resolved via medication.Even through all that she has been active and acted quite normal and healthy.

Foster Comments:I love this girl! She is so sweet!Everyone that meets her Loves Her!! She comes to us from Greece where she was left on the side of the road for dead with her 5 puppies. One of her pups stayed with the rescue in Greece and the other four came to the US.She was a really good momma, very affectionate and playful with her pups!!She needs some house manners, but other than that….she is perfect! She will be a true soul mate and forever at your side wherever your adventures take you….or even on the couch for a movie! Her coat is silky and short so very low maintenance and doesn’t seem to shed much!!Everyone that meets her can’t believe how loving and affectionate she is.She knows “no” and is really good about coming when you call her name or whistle. She has a quiet bark and doesn’t bark much except at night if she hears the coyotes (which are very active lately in my area).
