Behavior: Cody is a people dog as well as a lover of outside and hunting neighborhood squirrels. He loves to run in the yard. When in the house he is on alert for what is going on outside and is always looking out the windows. He will nap a bit and then right back to the windows or being outside.
When it is time to settle down he is happy to do that also. Cody is a cuddle and will hold on to you with a paw when he is ready to relax.. He gets up on furniture. I have not been able to break that habit. Late in the day Cody is ready to relax till the next day.
Activity Level: Cody is very playful early in the day. He will self play with toys. He will amuse himself with the goings on in the neighborhood when in the yard and stays in hunt mode most of the time. Later in the day Cody becomes a very laid back dog and is thrilled to be with you and cuddle.
Cody is an excellent companion, follows you and wants to play and wants to please you.
Fence:Cody needs a yard to run and hunt in. He is on the lookout for birds and squirrels 24/7. He also needs a hard fence. Cody walks well on a leash. He loves walking the neighborhood on a leash but his real joy is running in the yard and chasing squirrels up trees and waiting for them to come back down.
Medical History: Cody is UTD on all vaccines and shots, neutered, and is on heart worm preventative and flea/tick preventative. Cody has enamel hypoplasia, badly developed enamelon teeth, due to viral medication when he was a pup. Cody will need dental cleanings on an estimated yearly or half yearly basis.Cody has a slight heart murmur and the cardiologist veterinarian said it is a regular murmur and not life threatening.
Cody is from Turkey where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He has tested negative, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system. Potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Your vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The test typically costs $120-150 but varies from vet to vet.
Foster Comments:Cody is a wonderful dog. He is sweet and gentle. He loves people and is an excellent companion. He can be independent, and yet wants to be with you also. Cody is a pleasure to have. In my home. Cody is great in the car as well.
Cody is a good traveler by car. He should not be considered for adoption by adopters in which Cody would have to travel by air.

Foster Location: Foster is on Staten Island. I will drive up to two hours one way, as part of the transport to his forever home.
Volunteer transport can be arranged in the Continental US within a 1,000 mile distance between adopters & foster home. Typically, we are able to transport your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home. *Dogs can be adopted outside the 1000 mile transport distance; however, adopters must be willing to either fly their adopted dog, drive to a location within the 1000 mile transport range, or make independent transport arrangements for their adopted dog.
