LOLA AB#18-090 – F, 10 Months

Foster dog name: Lola

Gender: F

Age: 10 months

Size/Weight: 38 lbs.

Color: Black and White

Breed: English Setter

Good with Children: No

Good with Dogs: only with dogs she knows

Good with Cats: unknown

House trained: Yes

Crate trained: Yes, goes in willingly.

Leash trained: Working on it; she still pulls a lot.

Behavior: Lola is a sweet, smart  dog. She enjoys snuggling, thinks she is a lap dog, and loves to sleep in bed with you. She is velcro; Lola enjoys being with you, no matter what you're doing! She follows her foster mom from kitchen to laundry room. She lounges in the living room and plays with her chew toys while we watch TV. At first, Lola was kennelled when we were having dinner, but she has learned not to beg or be so pushy.  Clear, consistent parameters will help her learn expectations quickly. She has learned “sit” and “shake.”

Lola still has puppy energy, so she needs to be supervised; if she is out of sight, she may get into something she shouldn’t. She will steal a sock from the laundry or chew up something that isn't a toy; all shoes need to go into a closet. Simple correction works as she aims to please. Because she is a puppy, Lola should grow out of this.

Lola is nervous around new people and dogs she doesn’t know. She seems to feel threatened, barks, and becomes defensive. Once she learns that they will not harm her, she warms up.  For this reason she is not trusted around young children. Patience, recognizing that there is an adjustment period, and understanding of canine behavior by adopters will be necessary.

Activity Level: Lola is alert and active. She takes a 1 mile walk almost daily, and in addition we play fetch indoors or in the backyard. This and the availability of lots of chew toys, satisfies her. She is very smart and has quickly learned the routines of our home.

Fence: A fence is preferred as Lola enjoys the freedom of running in a fenced yard. However, Lola does not need a fence if regular exercise is guaranteed.

Medical History: She was found on  roadside in Alabama covered in fleas with some fur missing. She is now healthy! Lola is spayed and is HW negative.

Foster Comments: When she came to us Lola had been called Lani, so we have been calling her Layla, a combination of Lola/Lani. By any name, she is a charming, darling girl who loves playing with people she trusts and her 4 legged foster brother.
