POLLUX

POLLUX#18-023-3

Gender: Unaltered Male – scheduled for neuter on March 23, 2018

Age: 8 months (approx. DOB 9/2017)

Size/Weight: 43 lb, approximately 22 inches at the shoulder

Color: Fawn with black tips; white on the chest

Breed: Mom is all English Setter, see the image of his DNA analysis for his dad's side

Socialization/training: No known formal training. We’ve worked very hard on recall so Pollux is very good with the “Here” command. He is generally very well behaved and is easy to have in the house. He does not cause any mischief and is very sensitive to correction of any kind.

Good with Children: Unknown. There are no children in Pollux’s home, but he’s a gentle and somewhat timid dog, so would likely do best in a home with older children who will be careful with him.

Good with Dogs: Pollux is great with other dogs and is getting better at reading cues from the other dogs when they tell him they have had enough play. He has quite a few setter foster siblings and he gets along very well with all of them. He would probably do very well in a home with another young dog to play with.

Good with Cats: He was a bit afraid of the cat in his temp foster home.

House trained: Yes. Since coming to his new foster home, Pollux has not had any accidents at all.

Crate trained: Very will crate trained – Polly loves his crate, that is his space and safe place. Pollux still sleeps in his crate at night and settles very well. We also feed Pollux in his crate.

Leash trained: Pollux has nice leash manners and doesn’t pull.

Activity Level:  Pollux is a pup with a moderate to high energy level that loves to explore everything but is also a bit timid so he does so cautiously. Once he’s had his fill of fun outside he’s happy to come inside and curl up next to you on the sofa – his motto is “there is no such thing as getting too close.”

Fence:  Pollux is trained on the invisible fence and is respectful of the boundaries. Leash walking will not be sufficient, Pollux needs an invisible fence system or a physically fenced yard to play in. He has a physical fence in his current foster home and does not try to challenge it at all.

Behavior:  Pollux loves to cuddle and would be happy sleeping in your bed with you. Pollux is very timid toward men and strangers. Although it takes him a bit of time to warm up to people Pollux is a lover and wants to please people; he’s a very special boy that is going to steal someone’s heart. Once he gets to know you, he loves nothing more than laying in your lap.

Medical History:  Neutered on March 23, 2018. UPollux is healthy and. up-to-date on all other vaccines. Pollux originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. He tested negative for Leishmaniasis before coming to the US, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to having him tested annually for the next 7 years.

Foster Comments:  Pollux loads up in the car on command and settles right in without getting sick.  Pollux is one of the most sensitive dogs that I’ve encountered. He gets very depressed if he can’t be free to play outside and doesn’t do well on a longline or check-cord. For his own well-being Pollux needs to be in a home where he can have a yard and room to roam.
Pollux is a very loving and wonderful dog. He and his brother Castor have been two of the easiest fosters I have ever had. They are loving and gentle, friendly with all other dogs, and very well behaved. Pollux settles in his crate beautifully and is happy just to be near you whenever he can. He is a joy to have around. Because he is timid initially, Pollux needs a family who will have patience with him while he settles in and give him time to get acquainted with his new home and family. Once he adjusts and feels safe, he will reward his new family with unconditional love and loyalty.
