Good with Dogs: yes

Good with Cats: was ok with the cat he met at the vets

House trained: yes

Crate trained: yes

Activity Level: Birch is very active in the fenced yard

Fence: Birch is very much a hunter and I would not trust him off leash. A fenced yard is best for him

Behavior: Birch is fairly independent and would be ok with another canine companion or as an only dog. He enjoys human companionship and seems to prefer women to men

Medical History: Birch is up to date on vaccines, micro chipped & neutered. Birch is being treated for Heart worms. He will be retested late January to determine if he is free of heart worms

Foster Comments: Birch came into the rescue as one of the Florida 5 setters, all were heart worm positive. Birch will be retested in late January and will be ready to go to his forever home if he tests negative.
Birch is an absolutely gorgeous boy! He also seems to have some hunting ability with a beautiful point on birds in his foster mom’s back yard. Birch does quite well walking on leash and harness, rides well in the car and does well with getting baths.

Birch loves running in the yard and getting out for walks. He will run and hunt and then come inside when he is ready. He has fairly good recall when in the fenced yard.

Birch is wary of some people and can behave in an aggressive manner towards them in growling and baring his teeth. His foster mom is working on this in broadening his experiences. It seems to be tied into certain appearances with men and being crated. It is possible that his original human was abusive toward him. He is a very sweet and loving boy and has no aggressive traits to his foster mom. For this reason it is best he not be placed in a home with young children.
