Age: 8 years, Approx. DOB 9/4/08
Size/Weight: Big – 55 lbs
Color: Orange Belton
Breed: English Setter
Socialization/training: Dallas loves people, is good with kids. He could use more obedience training. He loves to snuggle!
Good with Children: Has been very patient with our 5 year old granddaughter.
Good with Dogs: He loves to play with our female dog. Dallas is having some arguments with two of our male dogs. He is trying to move up the pecking order in the pack, which the other dogs don’t appreciate. He could be an only dog, but he would prefer to have one other dog, preferably female or submissive male, in the home.
Good with Cats: No
House trained: Yes
Crate trained: Unknown.
Leash trained: He should use a Gentle Leader harness. He’s very big and strong. He is very active on the leash and can be challenging to walk without more training.
Activity Level: Like most setters, Dallas is playful outside and pretty laid back inside. Will stop almost any activity to have his ears scratched. He enjoys chasing tennis balls, but doesn’t always bring them back.
Fence REQUIRED: We have an Invisible Fence. He was already familiar with the IF, and learned it immediately. For safety, a sturdy fence or Invisible Fence is needed.
Behavior: Dallas has spent most of his life in a family setting. He was turned over to A & B because his family had an infant who was allergic to him. He bonds to his people quickly, and likes to be with them. He is very calm inside, and is generally active outside. He is very interested in squirrels.
Medical History: Neutered; heartworm Negative, up to date on shots; on Flea & Tick preventative and HW preventative; microchipped. He has a history of allergies, suspected to be food allergies, but has not shown them in the foster home. He takes 2 Benedryl daily in cream cheese to help with itchy skin.
Foster Comments: Dallas is a very sweet boy who needs a permanent home to enjoy for the rest of his life. He acts younger than 8 years old, and has a lot of life left in him! He is very loving and seeks attention from his people. Dallas is very enthusiastic about riding in the car, but is not a good passenger unless he is harnessed in. He tends to jump around the car. He can be quite talkative, making sounds inside, outside and when in the car. He has a rather high bark for a dog his size. He’s not overly barky, but can get triggered when my other dogs are triggered.
