Age: 2 years, Approx. DOB 10/14/14
Size/Weight: short - 46 lbs.
Color: White and Orange
Breed: English Setter MIX, possibly Brittany Spaniel/ Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
Socialization/training: Archer is extremely friendly. He warms up to people and kids at once and immediately becomes their best friend. He loves to snuggle and be near you. He knows some of the basic commands i.e. sit, stay, come, wait and has been working with a trainer. He is smart and picks up commands easily. He will work hard for your attention and treats, making training him very easy.
Good with Children: yes
Good with Dogs: yes-but it is recommended that he does a meet and greet. He has been harassed by a neighborhood dog and Archer has felt the need to put his guard up. A more relaxed, submissive companion dog may be best.
Good with Cats: Some-- especially those that are very comfortable with dogs.
House trained: yes
Crate trained: Yes, but once he's settled in does not need it and will stay calm with companions at home. Sleeps in his bed at night.
Leash trained: Yes, and walks nicely with an EZ Walk Harness . He will walk in a heel position and does not pull or yank (this still needs to be reinforced as it is fairly new in his training).
Activity Level: He is a high-energy, active, playful pup. He loves to race in a nice fenced in yard with pup friends. He loves to play with balls and toys (especially those that tug and don't pull apart easily). He is a hunter and is likely to rid the backyard of groundhogs and flush out birds.
Fence: It is recommended, but he shows no sign of wanting to leave without you. If he gets outside off leash he is quick to come at command.
Behavior: After getting some energy out he is quick to become laid back and mild mannered and definitely likes to cuddle -- he LOVES to snuggle. He is very attentive and listens well. Archer doesn't love baths but once he's in, he adjusts and is patient-- no problems. He does very little barking. He has been evaluated by an animal behavioralist (he's adored by her)-- he comes with a recommendation available for potential adopters.
Medical History: He is in very good health and up to date on vaccines. He's HW negative, micro chipped and neutered. He was recently tested for his thyroid levels and urine all of which came back in good health. All vetting paperwork available.
Foster Comments: Archer has been a wonderful part of the family. He is patient with two young children, though he'd rather be with an adult. Everyone who has met him has commented on his good behavior and friendliness. He can be flexible with many environments, he travels well in the car.
Adoption fee: $300.00
Foster Location: Ambridge, PA
In most cases volunteer transport is available for your adopted dog to within 2 hours of your home.
