Tana here: There must be something wrong with
the A&B application in-box. I know there's
something wrong since my name is not on any of
the applications they're getting. Do you think there
are so many that they are getting stuck in the spam
filter? I know I've done my part in becoming a
loving, sweet and beautiful girl.
Foster Mom: Tana may have a point. She is
obscenely soft (think angora rabbit), and is a
natural born therapy dog. We recently went
through obedience classes and each night a doctor
would come directly from work. She would arrive all
stressed out and anxious from a long tough day.
The doctor would seek out Tana, sit down and start
petting her while talking to folks. You could
physically see her decompress while touching Tana.
Like the best of setters, Tana would gently lean
against the doctor and just soak up the touch
along with melting the day's stress. Once you get
started touching Tana, it's hard to stop ! Yes, she
does have some other issues, but Tana's awesome
with people, including children, and should be
seriously considered by anyone who ever feels
stressed.
*********
Meet Miss Tana. Tana is 7 years old, heartworm
negative, spayed, up-to-date on all vaccinations,
crate trained and housebroken. Tana was rescued
from a shelter in Texas where they had confused a
flea and food sensitivity with mange. She was on
the verge of being put to sleep when a
knowledgeable rescue angel saved her.
Tana is your typical setter in that she enjoys free
time in the fenced yard, but once inside is a world-
class couch potato. She relaxes so much she often
slips right off the couch onto the floor... and then
looks at you as if to say, “I meant to do that.” Tana
routinely turns herself upside down to beg for
tummy rubs. Whenever Tana does start pacing
around the house, its guaranteed to mean one of 2
things - either the water dish is empty or she needs
to go out. But given the option, her favorite
pastime is cuddling up against you on the couch.
Tana has gone from almost completely naked and
pink to having a thick, super soft, and luxurious
coat. She is even starting to grow the feathers
setters are known for.
Tana has spent time with a 2 yr old toddler and she
made sure not to bump into him, whip him with her
tail and gave only the gentlest sniffs of his face. She
tolerated it well when he declared that she had
eyes, ears, nose and mouth, along with the required
touching of those places.
Tana has been around cats on two occasions that
we know of. In a controlled situation at the vet’s
office with a very dog-savvy cat, she was fine, but
she is unlikely to be safe around cats or any other
animal that runs away or scurries. Tana made very
short work of a rabbit foolish enough to be inside
the dog yard when I let them out, and is always
attentive to birds and critters outside the fence.
Tana has had no problem in her foster home with
any of the other dogs other than some growling
from the resident, larger, older alpha female setter.
She has been gentle with the cairn terriers who are
also fostered in this home.
With strict flea control, provision of premium quality
food, and routine free time in a fenced yard, Tana is
an easy maintenance sweetheart.
