Ellie is approximately 7- 8 years old. She is a petite
orange and white girl weighing between 35-40
pounds. From the day she arrived, she has never
raised a hackle or growled at our 4-year old tri-color
male Setter or any other dog she has ever met. Ellie
seems to enjoy the company of another dog. She will
curl up on the same dog bed with our Setter.
Ellie is a little hard of hearing. She is not deaf, but
based on several observations, she sometimes
cannot ascertain where sound is coming from. For
example, Ellie is completely un-phased by a lot of
things that our setter hears or might be startled by.
For the most part this is not a great concern around
the house, but in other instances (such as recall
outside) Ellie doesn’t know when you are calling her
to come to you. HOWEVER, if she SEES you
motioning her to come in, her entire “body
expression” turns into a smile and she comes running!
Ellie is quiet and sleeps a lot. She does enjoy going
outside, but she does not race around the yard as
other setters do. She is not a fence jumper and rarely
barks. She follows me around the house and yard,
quite happy to be in the company of humans too.
She enjoys a car ride and loves to go for a walk. She
doesn’t pull on the leash and is enjoyable to take out
in public. She settles very nicely wherever she goes.
Ellie is very calm. She has been very gentle and loving
around our 7-year old daughter. I would safely say
she could be trusted around children (that is, NICE
children with respect for animals!) Sometimes I feel
as though this dog has been through so much in her
life that she is just thankful for a soft bed and a good
meal!
Her prey drive is low – she isn’t interested in chasing
birds or squirrels. She has met a few cats (at the vet
and on walks in the neighborhood) and she seems to
ignore them. I think Ellie would be OK with a cat
since she doesn’t want any trouble with anybody!
Ellie’s ideal home would be a low-key environment
with a retired couple or someone who would be
home with her most of the time. She is a lovely
companion pet and is relatively low maintenance. She
is spayed, up to date on her shots, heartworm and
flea preventative.
